Re: Jeopardy All-Star Games

jeff6286: Are you sure about needing 30 games? I think it's 20 (6C3) with each team needing to play 10 (there are 5 choices for a team's first opponent, then 4 choices for their second opponent producing 20 sets of opponents, but that double counts each potential line-up so there are 10). Am I missi...

Re: Jeopardy All-Star Games

In the land of crazy, could they play games "horizontally" rather than "vertically"? By that I mean that on the first day, they would have two SJ rounds which would feature all 6 teams (though just 1 player from each team). Then on the second day, they would play two rounds of DJ and FJ. I don't lik...

Re: Jeopardy All-Star Games

The tournament is a Wednesday-through-Tuesday, so it would not surprise me if it was set up in some sort of four-part 3-episode 3-episode 2-episode 2-episode fashion. Or that they will do something like spread two games worth of content over three games, filling the dead time with puff segments and...

Re: Jeopardy All-Star Games

After a little research, I see that my crazy idea of a team having to face each other in the finals is not what's going to happen. I found this (which I'm sure many have seen): How will the competition work? Teams will return to Los Angeles in January 2019 to compete against each other head-to-head...

Re: Jeopardy All-Star Games

I'm a little late to the party here, but I do have some comments. First, I think this is a terrible idea. To me, it feels like a TV show forcing a new baby on the show. Sure, that worked fine for "I Love Lucy" but look at, for example, shows like "Mad About You", "Fresh Prince of Bel Air" and of cou...

Re: Tuesday, June 26, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

United Arab Emirates was a perfectly valid guess, and what I went with. I can't think of anything that would've made it any better or worse a guess than Bangladesh, aside from it being wrong, anyway :P. I sort of agree with you. But the similarity to "Bollywood" made me start my search in the vicin...

Re: Thursday, November 9, 2017 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

I'm checking the box that says I knew it was apples but didn't guess Washington. I figured New York's a big apple-producing state and it's got a big city that has lots of street corners. Sure, Washington's bigger NOW. But in the '30s? I really thought I'd get this one. Like you, I did get as far as...

Re: Monday, November 6, 2017 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

Can anybody explain to me why Buzzy risked his semifinal spot with that FJ wager? He was already at a level where he's over 90% to advance. I can understand wagering something up to the difference between his score and 2nd places' which forces 2nd place to get it right to overtake him. And the actua...

Re: Monday, November 6, 2017 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

Yeah, how was The Silver Bullet Band a TS? Took me about 15 seconds, but the 1812 Overture came to mind. My feeling, too, but look at the age of the contestants. Bob Seger was most active in the late 60s through the early 80s. It was an instaget for me, but I'm old enough to have heard most Seger s...

Re: Tuesday, October 3, 2017 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

We should have more games where Alex dispenses with the preamble to get more clues in. :) Just when I was wondering why Austin's DD wager in the Venus category was so . . . Venusian :D by his previous standards, he goes and makes an FJ wager far beyond the cover bet that most of us were probably ex...

Re: What do you guys think of Austin Rogers so far? [POSSIBLE SPOILERS]

I don't find anything wrong with him. He's a little too reckless at times (why did he wager more than 33,600 on FJ on Tuesday), but people often make math mistakes under the lights. It will be interesting to see how far he goes, and whether or not he'll be in November's TOC. Disagree that it was a ...

Re: Wednesday, October 4, 2017 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

Was not impressed with the calculus knowledge from the contestants. No kidding! I flunked high school calculus and still ran the category. It was really just vocabulary. I guess Jeopardy doesn't attract math geeks. Integration and Derivatives missed. That is weak. There are plenty of math-p...

Re: Tuesday, October 3, 2017 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

Two others have posted what they thought Austin's max wager should have been. I got a different number. $18,600 could double to $37,200, so Austin must wager at least $2201. If he misses that, he sits at $32,799. If Amy wagers to clear just that, she wagers $14,200. Missing that gives her $4400. So...

Re: What do you think of this betting "rule"? (June 1 SPOILERS)

It's a little more complicated than you're describing depending on what you mean by "significantly behind". Let's assume for the moment that you're in 2nd place and 3rd place is effectively out of the game with a very low total. You need to take into consideration the 2/3 level of leader's score. Fo...

Re: June 1, 2017 Adult Online Test Discussion (Pacific)

I took this one for real and got a 45 (typical for me). However, I was all over the map on the other two tests. I got a 48 on Tuesday taking it from the written clues (breezed through the 15 second time limit wasn't relevant) but a 40 on Wednesday taking it from sherder's video (thanks Sue!). And th...
