I did go the wrong way in deciding between the Somme and the Marne earlier in the game.
I too went with Somme. I was surprised Manny missed it as he appears strong in history.

I'm 2/2 in FJ this week after going something like 2/10 the last two weeks.

I was about 90% sure Cabrera was from Argentina, and about 75% sure Immelman was from South Africa. Singh was the only one I was truly confident about.

If this TD had been posted as by anonymous and there was a bonus for guessing the author my guess would have been Ironhorse.

I will predict I do not finish in the top 10 on this one.
I didn't know I'd been around long enough to be distinctive

Enron was an instaget. I did briefly consider Kmart as their bankruptcy was in the same general time period but Enron seemed clearly what they were going for.

TD 357: Autumn Assortment (all Q's revealed, final scores up)

I'm posting this a little early because my work hours have been spiraling out of control lately and I don't know when I'll get home tomorrow. I racked my brain trying to think of an appropriate theme for my first TD but ended up deciding to go general. You may drop one question and take the sheep fo...

There's no point in clamming on FJ, and there's no shame in taking an educated guess...
Yes there is. What if you guess WRONG?
On the show, no answer provides an identical result to a wrong answer.

more Americans have an inkling of an idea who George Washington Carver is.
The guy who chopped up George Washington?
"I cannot tell a lie, Father. I chopped up George Washington."
And he went well with fava beans and a nice chianti.

Re: Think Different best practices

And no matter what, even if it's your tenth time at the helm, it never hurts to ask someone for feedback on your game : both the rules and the questions. I am always happy to help out, and I know several others here are, as well. I'm hosting for the first time this next week and I think I may well ...

Re: The Official TPH Education Thread (POTENTIAL GAME DAY SPOILERS)

The World Series is often called the "October Classic". Offhand, I can't think of any other super notable sporting events that occur in October, and thinking back to 1921 limits the sports you have to run through in your hand (for example, basketball was not a widely popular spectator sport at that ...

Re: Friday, October 13, 2017 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

My only quiz show experience was on a local access show modeled after a two player version of J! when I was in college. Honestly, I didn't go in expecting to win. Being 21 or 22, I feared my youth would be an issue, and just went in hoping not to embarrass myself. As it turned out, my opponent turne...

Re: What do you guys think of Austin Rogers so far? [POSSIBLE SPOILERS]

After seeing Austin in 13 games I get why J! made its "Who Will It Be?" promo teaser. The string of games lived up to the hype with a memorable contestant that certainly had people talking. There was a discussion today on the Reddit sub where one of the moderators mentioned that traffic had doubled...

Great poker face by Scarlett on the FJ reveal. Had me thinking she didn't wager enough, since there's been a lot of that been going on in this season.
She definitely doesn't strike me as a contestant who would underwager there.

Re: TD 355 - Something - Q4 RESULTS

Whoddathunk? While I like the consistory I'm showing in getting 2 for every question so far, I am shocked that someone else (Ironhorse) has heard of Newton, KS! South Central Kansas is representing! I grew up in Kansas myself, though in suburban KC. I'm sure you don't resemble this fellow, but I co...

My initial thought on the NWA question was "Fuck Tha Police" but I obviously knew there was no way that was making its way onto J!

Would just "nuncio" for "papal nuncio" have been acceptable?

The cicada question took me back to 1998, when I was biking across Missouri as part of Boy Scouts. That was the summer the 13 year and 17 year cicada cycles coincided, and they made sleep rather difficult in my tent!

Re: Monday, October 9, 2017 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

I was surprised Austin got Chardonnay wrong given his profession.

"Charlotte" was a devious false trail for the NC Research Triangle question; it's actually two hours away on the SC border. Given that my wife is from Raleigh, I would have gotten in trouble for missing that one.

Re: Monday, October 9, 2017 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]

I negged on the TS asking for the state of Blue Eye (I couldn't remember the other one). Blue Eye, Arkansas is twinned with Blue Eye, Missouri right across the border. Blue Eye, MO is where televangelist Jim Bakker has set up shop recently.
