Re: Monday, May 31, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Mayim and Buzzy are difficult to directly compare because a ToC is that different from regular play. Buzzy's fast pace was appropriate but wouldn't play as well otherwise; I imagine he would have adapted for regular play but we don't have a way of knowing for sure. Mayim's first game pace seemed jus...

Re: 2021 Current Events Discussion Thread

While my take on the Osaka issue is similar to that of Golf, in the public's eye the issue will be irrevocably intertwined with the ongoing controversy regarding poor fan behavior at NBA playoff games. This will ultimately be to her benefit from a PR perspective.

On the form, #5 says Movie title, but the question asks for an artist, just FYI. Thanks for hosting.

Re: Friday, May 28, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

The hypothetical difference between first and second may be more than $150,000 as winning the ToC vastly increases the odds of being invited back. She should have played to win.

I liked him a lot as host, but had to dock him one point for his horrendous pronunciations of foreign words. In all though, I wouldn't mind at all having him full time.
That is at least correctable.

How did anybody jump to graffiti? I was looking for something starting with 'f' as akin to sfumato (which I only learned about on LL81 (or thereabouts). 'G' would be about the last consonant I'd look at for an initial silent 's'. When Thorsten says "very different", he means it. I tried to think of...

I didn't make the Dunkin' Donuts connection at all as it's not a business I frequent and didn't know they had a Munchkins on their menu. After thinking about it for 20-30 minutes, I happened upon the correct book as I remembered the discussion from this recent FJ where somebody mentioned that 1900 i...

Also, how common is Petersen House for the location of Lincoln's death? I got it because I was there two weeks ago.
I've been there and I didn't recall it.

I'm terrible at film but did make the connection on yesterday's question. But I couldn't remember if the postman knocks twice or if he rings twice... and got it wrong. Cost me what would have been a tie.

I thought it was talking about To Kill A Mockingbird. Had I been able to treat it like LL and sit down and think, I probably would have realized that the 1940s were too early for that book, given that Harper Lee died fairly recently.

Adolf Anderssen played both the Immortal Game and the Evergreen Game, you know. WHAT MORE DOES HE HAVE TO DO?
Though later computer analysis has suggested the Immortal Game was actually played inaccurately by Anderssen.

Re: 2021 Current Events Study GUIDE. Study GUIDE.

Phil Mickelson wins the 2021 PGA Championship for his sixth major championship (3 Masters, 2 PGAs, 1 British Open; he has come second at the US Open six times, most recently 2013). At age 50, he is the oldest man to win a major. I'm still disappointed that Tom Watson couldn't par that 18th hole in ...

A few weeks ago, I randomly read the Wikipedia synopsis for Driving Miss Daisy , and converted a rare theater question resultingly. For defense, the Vivaldi question was an easy 0. My opponent was not particularly strong in Geography, but had an East Asian last name, so I assigned him 1 point for th...

Re: Thursday, May 20, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I was surprised that Buzzy said who the three previous winners were at the beginning. I felt that could potentially provide some information, notably, that Jason had not won his game, and that potentially the wild card cutoff could be a little higher. As far as Lord Baltimore vs. De La Warr, I knew ...
