Re: LL66 (For the LLamas)

I thought of Charlemagne and talked myself out of it, costing me a point and the match against a 9(6) opponent, costing me first place in my rundle with 1 game left to play. I am going to remember *that* mistake. Rex P.S. -- The tie would still have cost me first place, but at least I'd have a bette...

Re: Zach Horan (legendneverdies) Banned

If "mansplaining" is a real problem, so is a hypothetical equivalent, "womansplaining." Yeah, and white lives matter, too! Ugh. As much as I loved your previous post, this one contains a terrible analogy. "Black Lives Matter" does not project a message of reverse racism, either taken literally or a...

If "mansplaining" is a real problem, so is a hypothetical equivalent, "womansplaining." Yeah, and white lives matter, too! It is soooo easy to get caught up in pointless discussions about technical procedural fairness in order to distract people from real systemic unfairness. Drawing a false equiva...

Re: Zach Horan (legendneverdies) Banned

On a PBS special on race last night, I heard a person of one race/ethnicity explaining what people of a different race/ethnicity feel and think. (I'm leaving out the races/ethnicities here, because I think it doesn't, or at least shouldn't matter.) I don't know if there's a particular name for that...

Re: Zach Horan (legendneverdies) Banned

Every time I see this thread's title, I imagine a dark stage in a seedy bar in Daytona, onto which steps a group of scruffy musicians, the leader of which takes the mike and announces, "We're the Zach Horan Band!" And they launch into their set, which includes "Every Breath You Take," "It's a Man's ...

Re: Familiar face on Millionaire

From what I can tell, we will see one $500k question this year, but no million dollar question. I don't know if the person walked with $250k or dropped to $50,000. With the new format, I expect to see about fifteen $250k questions. Okay, so are we done? Congratulations, Tony! I'm so pleased to see ...

I guess I'll have to watch Airplane! one of these days.
Surely you will. Each of us faces a clear moral choice.

I can read as well as any lawyer; the statute is plain (all lawyers are scum, btw). I'm not undermining anything, just trying to get you to recognize that he will never be pursued, let alone punished, by the FBI or the courts. Not to validate everything (or, indeed, anything) else Vanya just said, ...

Re: Zach Horan (legendneverdies) Banned

Well done, all. Because ZH's behavior is literally incomprehensible to me, I prefer to think of him as akin to a natural nuisance, like tapeworms or freezing rain or norovirus. It is simply a waste of time to anthropomorphize him. He won't respond to reason or entreaty. The best ways for society to ...

I wouldn't worry too much. From what I can tell, we will see one $500k question this year, but no million dollar question. I don't know if the person walked with $250k or dropped to $50,000. I appreciate the thought, but this is the opposite of comforting -- all I can think now is "Great, Leszek wa...

Re: Familiar face on Millionaire

I saw on FB that a College Champion will be taping an appearance. She "only" won $110K (not counting alternate money), so Rex's $125K on both shows can't be matched in this case. However Leszek Pawlowicz will be playing, and he's won over $200,000 on Jeopardy. He'll be the one for Rex to watch. Oh,...

Re: LL66 (For the LLamas)

No chance on Mumbai (the only one my opponent got right) and could not pull out Pop Idol. Kato sounded like a good name for a dog and the leghorn was a safe guess. When I first read the Mumbai clue, I thought "What . . . the . . . hell?" and resigned myself to missing it. Then I figured out the TOM...

Both ShortC and ScheelerD continue their DE-less streaks with their fourth consecutive matches against 9(6) opponents. I wonder what the record is.

Re: LL66 (For the LLamas)

I knew there was an underground group of adult fans of the show, but I never knew they held a convention. Scary. The scary thing is that they aren't nearly as underground as one would think they'd be! What kind of lunatics would congregate online and in person to celebrate a specific TV show? Rex

If you only had a week, there is not much you could study and actually make yourself better off. Your best bet would be to sharpen up in areas that you know but not perfectly -- things you already have the context you can use to retain new information. Otherwise, I agree with Austin Powers.

Re: For the LLamas Among Us

Rundle B Highland What, praytell, is your LL name? I am MacDonaldB, relegated to B Highland (that sounds judgmental, but, really, "relegation" is the term) after an abysmal *5* forfeits in LL64, for which I am blaming Yosemite Mark Burnett. (However, several LLers can tell you that that is a lame e...
