Re: Friday, January 29, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Why is a plugged nickel "colorful"? I'd call it mundane. It's a real object that's not worth anything. Since every player is expected to understand J!-speak, I don't think they'd "have" to accept it. Doesn't matter. Rule is if it fits the clue, it's allowable, and colorful is not a strong enough pi...

Re: Friday, January 29, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
I also said “plugged nickel” for the coin $1200 clue; nickel is used as a color name, but somehow I think TPTB would not accept it :( I marked it wrong at the time, but I intended to go back and double check the wording in case I missed another pin. In this case they'd have to accept it; colorful i...

The phrase "no quarter" was in the news in the summer of 2020 when Sen. Tom Cotton used it in referring to events in Portland and elsewhere. It was quite controversial. To keep this non-political, I'll link to an article in popculture.com- https://popculture.com/trending/news/senator-tom-cotton-no-q...

Also painful - Papa's Got A Bran New Bag. Ken actually said, "I'm gonna need your help finishing it". If they had given the "d" in the clue, could they have counted it? I imagine it's a case of the heebie-jeebies that caused Jill to freeze, and I could see anyone new to the show doing that, too. Ye...

What's the preferred pronunciation for stone of scone? I'm pretty sure I heard Jill say Schoon. I've been pronouncing it like the baked good. Google has a pronunciation like the baked good but I'm not sure how Scottish their algorithm is. I'm going with Schoon: https://youtu.be/lYvC0TgtVEs?t=112 If...

Epic fail for me on FJ...I could not remember Hickok's last name, I couldn't make the obvious Montana connection... For the first one, I wonder if they'd have accepted just Wild Bill. It's a good question. To be honest, I couldn't remember his first name (with proper epithet) either. All I h...

I always remember that Patrick Henry was a member of the House of Burgesses, a uniquely Virginian name for the legislature. (I've long thought it's where he gave his famous speech, but apparently not...it was before the "Second Virginia Convention".. ) Epic fail for me on FJ...I could not rem...

I'm wondering if Wheel made a mistake tonight. The puzzle was _EIGE SL_C_S. I would swear that the contestant was saying something like "beige slocks",but they deemed she said the correct answer. What makes me doubt it is that when the puzzle was revealed, she sounded like she said "or those". Weir...

Since I have trouble visualizing the world map in my head, I'm particularly proud of getting this FJ, just by picking the largest and smallest countries that I thought were on the Mediterranean...I was far from sure about Algeria especially...Whew!

My guess is the four folks coming on (for a week each, I've heard?) and are getting charity money to match aren't really in the running. With the exception of the 60 Minutes anchor, they all have strong, time-consuming interests outside of J!... As far as I know, Katie Couric doesn't have a regular...

Re: Fun with GSN's "Master Minds"
In Wednesday's game, Ken made a mistake in one of his "fun facts" comments. He said that the Germans used to refer to B flat as H; in fact, they used to refer to B flat as B and B natural as H. (I'm not sure the degree to which this is still practiced, but Ken definitely got it backwards.) I think ...

Saving TPH the typing -- Yes, the "Tales From" question was way, way undervalued at $400. It's polling 6%. I don't know what they were thinking on that one. Funny thing is, I went into Amazon yesterday to watch the most recent episode of The Expanse and guess what show was sitting two rows down ......

Saving TPH the typing -- Yes, the "Tales From" question was way, way undervalued at $400. It's polling 6%. I don't know what they were thinking on that one. Maybe just someone's enthusiasm for the show? (I didn't love it, but I could see a cultlike affinity for it. And there are one or two elements...
