Re: Toughest FJs 9/19/11 - 12/30/11

For most contestants to get the Wilde clue, I doubt it's enough to have general knowledge about him, or know his style, or even have read this poem - you have to either know the poem, or else know that Wilde wrote "each man kills the thing he loves" and make an educated guess that this comes from th...

davey wrote:The important sentence in that blog is "Well, last year I cheated with someone else rapidly Googling shit for me and I still did terrible." (emphasis added).
I agree. Just my impression, but I don't think that person would have done well, regardless.

Re: Online Test Discussion (Central), January 18, 2012

You expect someone to look up an answer on Wikipedia, find it, report back to their friend, and have said friend type it, all in the space of 15 seconds? I have a pretty decent typing speed (approx. 65 wpm) and pretty good Google-fu (which I suppose Wiki-fu is a subset of), and I know I couldn't do...

Re: Tuesday, January 24, 2012 Game Recap & Discussion (SPOILERS)

I don't think they would accept it. The "payee" is the name on the check, but it's not "the term for the person entitled to get the proceeds." One meaning is the one you gave, i.e., the person who actually receives payment. but it can also someone entitled to payment under any kind of agreement. It...

Re: Online Test Discussion (Central), January 18, 2012

A little of both. Maggie, at least, has an amazing memory. We joked at my first audition (2008) about how I had a corgi named Maggie. In 2010, she asked how my corgi was doing. (My internal monologue... "Damn, she's good!") Could this have been written in her notes? (I'm just playing detect...

Re: Tuesday, January 24, 2012 Game Recap & Discussion (SPOILERS)

A few questions of the judge's table: Musical Alphabet $400: "an encore" was given (by Alex), would "to repeat" work? I remember "bis" as a musical instruction to repeat a section of lyrics. Also, Insurance $200: "beneficiary" was given. Would "payee" work? I'll jump in if that's OK. I think "repea...

Re: Online Test Discussion (Central), January 18, 2012

Back when I had a streak going (5 appearances in 5 years) I was remembered, which wasn't surprising. But after a 4-year hiatus at my last audition (in Chicago) I was recognized/remembered. Yet that isn't necessarily a good thing because I haven't been called for the show. This and the other stories...

Re: Online Test Discussion (Central), January 18, 2012

OK, I will stipulate that it would be easy to have the online score in front of them, so they might consult it. But to me that would just confuse matters. I've always tried to look at it through the eyes of a staff that meets many more people than can ever fit on the show. When you stand up, talk a...

Re: Online Test Discussion (Central), January 18, 2012

I think the reason that they don't dismiss people now after the in-person test is out of human kindness since they don't want to send the very few people out of the room who didn't pass (as opposed to most of them all at once under the prior format). Sounds reasonable. My pre-online audition there ...

Re: Online Test Discussion (Central), January 18, 2012

Nor do they have an incentive to. The online test is simply a method to collect names for auditions. They do want people with a certain amount of knowledge, though. Three contestants dangling in the wind isn't very entertaining. Certainly not for someone who just scored a 32. They're out! I'm not s...

Re: Online Test Discussion (Pacific), January 19, 2012

While I'm pretty sure that, on the show, "Rockefeller" for #43 would get a BMS, they say straight out "last names are fine" for the test and I believe that they mean it. I'm sure that's right. They have a wide range of possible questions, and wouldn't knowingly pick one that created a problem on ev...

Re: Online Test Discussion (Pacific), January 19, 2012

Scored a 41 on the transcript for this. I wrote so quickly I forgot to answer one I knew, which would have brought me up to 42. In the actual test (Central), I scored a 38.

Re: Online Test Discussion (Central), January 18, 2012

Don't know how much of a factor this will be in terms of what's a passing score, but I assume there's a certain amount of cheating or attempted cheating on the online test. The Wikipedia blackout during this version of the test might have made that harder, or scared those who were planning to cheat ...

September, 2009. Because I was still in the database, I wasn't eligible for last year's online exam.

Re: Not sure about trying out

Fwiw, at my audition the coordinators told us the purpose of the in-person test was to validate our online test scores. If someone scored 49 online but 2 in person, for example, they'd know something was up. I didn't get the impression that there was a particular passing score, but they did tell the...

Re: Online Test Discussion (Central), January 18, 2012

Though I live in the Pacific time zone, I took this test last night because of a possible conflict tonight. I notice people are posting things here about having taken the Eastern zone test earlier for practice. Just wondering how that is possible - or does this mean they just answered the questions ...

Introducing myself - I live in Southern California and have auditioned once before. Just took the Central/Mountain Time test last night (because of a likely schedule conflict) so we'll see how that turns out!
