Re: Wednesday, February 3, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
I remembered this FJ (from reading, not watching), but said Helios, even with trepidation from "Greco-Roman."

Re: Tuesday, February 2, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
I did give myself credit for "boxing ring" instead of "fight site" because I felt it fit the clue and category. I would not accept that, as the would-be rhyming syllables are stressed differently. J! once used "marmot" as a correct response in the category RHYME-BOT (as in, all correct responses wi...

Re: Monday, February 1, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Anthony Trifilio's run spanned just over 12 months: he won a game near the end of February 2002, lost the next, disputed his FJ, and was brought back in early March 2003, winning a second time. After choosing Oscar Madison over Felix Unger by dumb luck, I should have pressed that luck on the next c...

Re: Missing Final Jeopardy! for improper phrasing
As it happens, I never closed the tab with the video paused at Marvin's FJ reveal, so I happened to go back without any extra trouble and see that there was no question mark!MinnesotaMyron wrote: ↑Mon Feb 01, 2021 5:55 pm(Now the question becomes, Was there a question mark, or not?)

Re: Missing Final Jeopardy! for improper phrasing
Reading this thread made me remember that I had come across a game in which (per the archive) a contestant gave a FJ! response without the phrasing... not only was it accepted as correct, that acceptance made that contestant the winner. And the second-place contestant who would have won does not ap...

Dustin Diamond, best known for playing Samuel "Screech" Powers on Saturday morning teen sitcom "Saved by the Bell," (as well as on its precursor "Good Morning, Miss Bliss," and its successor "Saved by the Bell: The New Class") has died at 44 of lung cancer.

Re: FJs for the 1/25/21 week
  :(   :( 4.5/5 this week; I had Custer but guessed Crazy Horse for the other. I would have written Derry but I knew it was aka Londonderry so I checked the "Derry" and "both" options. My first thought was horseshoeing, but Ewan McGregor tipped...

Eh, the French pronounce "saint" in a way that sounds like "san"; you could probably get away with it.

Re: Thursday, January 28, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
I dunno, my assumption is that if there were a category PRESIDENTIAL MIDDLE NAMES and one clue said "Quincy," you would still get dinged for responding, "Who is John Adams?" I don't think the presence of "Wells" in the clue can make "Invisible Man" acceptable.

Re: Thursday, January 28, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Interestingly, the J! site's ToC Tracker now has a "Current Tournament of Champions List" with the 15 exclusively Alex-era champs, and an "Eligible for Next Tournament of Champions" list with Brian and Zach. And underneath that list it says, "All 4-time and over winning players starting from 01/05/...

Re: Thursday, January 28, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Does that mean Zach was in a Joshua Brakhage situation, where winning or losing this game determined not whether he'd be in a ToC, but which one he'd be in? No, I think if he lost he was out of both. He was below VVV, so would have been frozen out of the Alex-era one, and because his prior wins WER...

Does that mean Zach was in a Joshua Brakhage situation, where winning or losing this game determined not whether he'd be in a ToC, but which one he'd be in? I got a couple of flashbacks to Ken's run from this show. "Think tank" was clued with the brain slang reference in his fourth game , and I reme...

Re: Missing Final Jeopardy! for improper phrasing
Thanks to MarkBarrett for his small synopses on the board when he adds games to the Archive: http://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=6298 Myron gets credit for that game. Many times a player's FJ! response will not include an "is" or an "are" as the contestants are only instructed for a "What...

Re: Wednesday, January 27, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
I got Custer, my dad got Hickok. He thought Custer was a ridiculous guess because of the buckskin hint, but long hair and a violent end in Montana couldn't have been anyone else in my mind. Unfortunately, buckskin and long hair made me assume the other guy had to be native.

Re: Monday, January 25, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
I didn't say make up a world capital name by that template, I said name a capital. The clue didn't give a template though. It just said "Amstel blah blah blah blah". If you've NHO Amstel, it very well could be anywhere. It didn't say "Amstel blah blah blah" even figuratively. It's a $200 clue; if y...
