Re: SHC Round 4 Instant Replay Thread (SPOILERS)
Ha! I thought the Bon Jovi song was called "Dead or Alive," but I was just unsure enough to add "Wanted" to the front of my response. Glad I did.

... I have it on good authority that crossword constructor extraordinaire joon pahk will appear on J! on Monday, October 3rd. I hope this doesn't mean they've hit their quota. ;) Ooh, I think he's responsible for "Guess My Word," which DadofTwins got me semi-hooked on a few months ago. Probably the...

It is dangling, but it's dangling with a preposition attached, which is why I object to the term "dangling gerund."gnash wrote: "moving" is indeed dangling.

Re: SHC Round 4 Instant Replay Thread (SPOILERS)
The example the author gives for DG is "By moving from the shadow of the building, the sun appeared in the sky." Well, there is nothing dangling here. The gerund phrase "by moving from the shadow of the building" unambiguously modifies the verb "appeared". ( How did the sun appear in the sky? By mo...

Re: SHC Round 4 Instant Replay Thread (SPOILERS)
We'll need a ruling from reddpenn as to whether there's any such thing as a "dangling gerund." I'm not reddpen, but I can tell you "dangling gerund" is absolutely wrong. I don't think there's any such thing, and besides, even if there were, the clue ends with "modifies the wrong noun," and gerunds ...

I was expecting someone to screw up the Florida lake with Okeefenokee, but it hasn't happened yet. And I may be the only one to guess on the fish-tailed goat that didn't let the word "goat" sway me to Capricorn! Also, it seemed whenever I watched Jeopardy or played the SHC in the past, if my instinc...

Re: What was your buzzing strategy?
I believe that this was noted before on the old board, but the souvenir J! pen that you are given at the audition makes a superb model "buzzer" as it has a similar feel (but a slimmer shape) to the real item. The force needed to depress the clicker is lighter than I've found in most pens and much c...

Re: Introduce Yourself Here
A good friend (and former radio co-host) of mine, Gavin Dluehosh, played and lost in ep #5635 , after betting incorrectly in FJ. He and I have had many a discussion about his strategery in that episode. He would have lost because of his wager had Jeanie not wagered weirdly. (If anything, Gavin's wa...

Well, rats, I guessed Dan Jansen, remembering the story about his sister's illness and untimely death ... intuiting that perhaps that might have inspired him to become a physician after he was done with skating. I was just off by, oh, more than a decade ... That was the name I was trying to remembe...

Re: SHC Round 3 Instant Replay Thread [SPOILERS]
I thought Gretzky was too easy an answer for the 8-pointer. Them's the breaks! After I submitted my answers and started looking at my classmates' work, I knew on sight that Falstaff was correct. Too bad that's an opera I can only name when explicitly fed the Shakespeare connection. But I'm happy abo...
