Re: Tuesday, December 27, 2011 Game Recap & Discussion (SPOILERS)

So, I needed to remember Edith Bolling Galt and her husband in the inaugural parade. It makes sense she was the first since she became the first female president as well?

Re: Any J! Archivists here?

It's also entirely possible that Gilbert substituted for Olson (or even Roddy) at some other point in the show's run. Especially during those early years. LA Times says Johnny O. never missed a taping. Anyone got an Encyclopedia of TV Game Shows handy? I have the 3rd edition of The Encyclopedia of ...

Re: Tuesday, December 27, 2011 Game Recap & Discussion (SPOILERS)

FDR for me as well. I used Boardwalk Empire and the Harding storyline to pin the time for women voting even though I already knew 19th = 1919. Wilson was my second choice with Harding, Coolidge and Hoover out for consideration. My third choice would have been Lincoln for no good reason. I guess the ...

How about this Tintin that has been getting some movie chatter lately? I don't know the names, but I say learn as a starter:

Tintin = reporter
The Captain
The dog and its breed
The author of the original work

Re: Monday, December 26, 2011 Game Recap & Discussion (SPOILERS)

Anyone wise off with "Philosopher's Stone" on the Potter clue? That was the first I had ever heard of Sorcerer's Stone , and was fully expecting a neg. When it didn't come, I wikied it, and sure enough, a different title for the U.S. Why the heck would they do that (or more to the point, why would ...

So far so good for me. Bring on one I hope is correct if I'm understanding the Q correctly and should not have too many matching me. The last one has me..... Well, I won't spoil it.

Re: Monday, December 26, 2011 Game Recap & Discussion (SPOILERS)

Alex eliminated one choice for the FJ category when he talked about Boxing Day in his opening remarks. When I saw the clue I wrote Windsor to have something to do with England and a home. I reread the clue and keyed on London. Buckingham Palace in London? Check. A home? Check. Duke of Buckingham? NH...

Wow, I guess I was playing with an unloaded pistol to avoid the sheep. Lucky me to amazingly get a singleton. Meryl Streep was the bonus? No chance on that one. Well done all of you who collected.

I knew all the songs and movies, but going for the bonus limited my options since composer/lyricist had me frightened to just guess the artist who sang. I saw Dick Tracy the movie once. I have listened to the music about this many times: 23x10^23

Re: Friday, December 23, 2011 Game Recap & Discussion (SPOILERS)

BOYB - Beer was accepted. How about bottle? How about booze? Judges? Are there others? Did the writers really expect me to go 4/4 on Friday "Wordy" type FJ clues so far this month? The best I could do was guess, "Save for a rainy day" to have something on the paper. Alex's pre-reveal remarks were en...

Re: Thursday, December 22, 2011 Game Recap & Discussion (SPOILERS)

I missed FJ and I will have to serve time on the appropriate Sporcle quizzes for my punishment. The clue immediately led me to something to do with Indonesia. Java/Borneo was my coin toss and I went the wrong way at home. Keeping track of islands/size/population will never be my specialty. I had ple...

Re: [TD 144] The Kodak Theater presents... The 144th Think Different!

I was sure there was no way The Last Emperor hit the mark and that The Hurt Locker would blow up in my face. I considered Out of Africa , but the star power had me too unsure to guess it. Why the surprise for Driving Miss Daisy doing well at the box office? It's like The King's Speech where there we...

I so wanted to guess Pulp Fiction, but I had no idea if it had a higher number than Forrest Gump. Shawshank Redemption was a sure shot to be higher and I had to go with that to avoid a neg.

I had to go through the registration process again. My name was available, but I created a new password. Same old avatar though. The first posts in the FJ thread were almost enough to make me give up on the whole process.
