Re: Wednesday, April 28, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I thought Leah's wager was fine. Is there a plausible scenario where she would have lost with her wager but won with a $0 wager? Or are we saying that $13800 is the only right wager? Leah's wager a) forces Dana to get FJ AND b) guards against Dana getting FJ right with enough of a wager to get past ...

...This is the second day in a row he hasn't informed a contestant that they can bet up to $1000/$2000 on a DD when the contestant had less than that amount. ... Maybe he didn't want to go in the hole, and it wouldn't have mattered anyway, and the host isn't required to Mirandize the contestant.......

Re: Tuesday, April 27, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I'm just not warming to Anderson Cooper. He gets the job done, I suppose. Mostly. This is the second day in a row he hasn't informed a contestant that they can bet up to $1000/$2000 on a DD when the contestant had less than that amount. Today, John had $800 and wagered the full $1000 on the SJ DD, s...

Re: Monday, April 26, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

My man Nick lost that lute / lyre coin flip :/ Lute vs lyre is only a coin flip if you can't picture either one. Otherwise "round-bodied" takes you right to lute (and "4-letter" rules out mandolin). Thank you! It's always been a coin flip for me. I need to go back to The Metropolitan Museum of Art ...

Re: Monday, April 26, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

My man Nick lost that lute / lyre coin flip :/ I drew a total blank on "stealing my thunder" - I knew I knew it but it took a lot of mental gymnastics to get there. I blame the cobwebs on my long pause on jeopardy watching due to my current state of languishing 'Who is Robin...?' 'I need a last nam...

Re: Monday, April 26, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Renamed cities that I can list offhand are the correct answer, a couple of Russian ones, Beijing/Peking, Hanoi/whatever, I'm out of time / Tulsa. Christiania/Oslo always a good one to remember. Regina, Saskatchewan was originally known as Pile of Bones. But that's way beyond the level of most Jeopa...

I actually wrote down "What is Istanbul, not Constantinople?" as a joke response. Think they'd have taken it?
Of course. The added information is correct so you don't get penalized.

Anderson gave an alternate response for the "slur" word response that might make zakharov a bit happier?
That alternative was Roma. Would they also accept Romany? I feel safer sticking with the slur. Erm... no offense?

Re: Friday, April 23, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Seriously, someone explain to me the logic of both Kelly and Dan's wagers. Dan's especially. Well, no one's defending Dan's. I'd guess it's close to indefensible, but I'd be curious to see someone take a shot. For Kelly's wager, on the other hand, at least a quarter of this thread involves discussi...

Re: Friday, April 23, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

1. Reveal. Every. Clue. Games with unused clues are a drag, especially when they're in your wheelhouse category. They've proven in TOC quarterfinals that they have the technology to let the contestants play every clue and still trim the game to the required length. Why should the number of clues in...

Re: Reretaken Down

I was looking through some of my old posts and their contexts, and found this gem: I am 99.9% certain that any clue that comes up on Jeopardy about the Golden State Killer will not mention Michelle McNamara's book. This was in the 2018 current events thread in April of that year; the one clue J! ha...

Also, I understand game theory, which is saying bet a buck. It does give you the absolute best chance of winning especially if the 2nd place player doesn't bet properly. That happened today. In my book, I'll reduce my chances of winning by a couple of percent in efforts to win the extra money. In t...

Re: Friday, April 23, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I seem to recall from the last time we had this conversation that post-Chu there was a marked uptick in ties being offered but only a slight uptick in games ending in a tie. A lot has to come together for a tie to happen, and the offer is only one component. I don't feel like checking the stats agai...

 :(    :| :| Thought of Starry Night pretty quickly but didn't realize it was supposed to be a view from a window. So I spent the rest of the music trying to think of a painting that has a window in it, like that van Eyck one. Hmmm. Didn't realize that y...

Re: Friday, April 23, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I found these games that had a lock-tie scenario: #941, 1731, 2295 (lock-tie tournament), 2946 (2 players tied for second), 3238, 4968, 5313, 5445, 5602, 6510, 6772, 7384, 8039, 8216, 8385. Of those 16 players who bet from second only one player bet 1 dollar less than the tie amount, one of the pla...
