Re: Unwritten Rules of Jeopardy

My pet peeve is contestants who repeatedly choose clues in a video category early in the round. Clear the board, people! Um, but if the board is going to be cleared, those clues would have to be chosen eventually, so it doesn't matter when they are chosen. But it does seem to matter in real life? -...

Re: FJs for the 5/22/17 week

Yikes! Didn't realize until I took the poll that I went 0/5 this week. I realized I had an Ofer before, but forgot how deceptive the Monday clue was. 19th century Brits anglicizing a city that would be in a new country in 50 years? I wanted to pick Paki, but didn't sense it seemed one step removed....

Re: Friday, May 26, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Anyone who says they went 5/5 on FJs this week is lying. Journey, Mutant Ninja Turtles and Greek historians? Come on. I went with Pliny The Younger today. To quote Sully: "Brace for Impact" Some of these guys/gals go 5/5 about every other week, and some even up to 20/20. This week's mix of clues wa...

Re: Wednesday, May 24, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Let me be the first fool to have guessed "Corgi". I tried to think through pocket dog and lap dog breeds and wasn't generating enough choices, so I tried to think of something possibly derived from a name. I figured Corgi might be a name, and since the Queen favors them, that gives a little more FJ ...

Re: Tuesday, May 23, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

True story - We had a manager with a sign in our lab that banned the playing of most big hair rock groups, but particularly Journey. Now I know why. I am currently looking for work. Remind me not to apply for any jobs with your lab. #hairmetal4ever (And yes, I like Don't Stop Believing, and so do m...

Re: Tuesday, May 23, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Instaget. Took my middle son to see them as a birthday present last summer. As the show was winding down, people were leaving, and I said to my son "Who goes to a Journey concert and leaves before they play Don't Stop Believin? People like me who think the song is one of the most banal pieces of cr...

Tonya
Tanya.
Oh, snap. I had it right and changed it. Getting old sucks. And being too stubborn to look stuff up does too. And to think I just had kippered herring for lunch which came in handy on that Food category. I thought fish was supposed to be brain food.

Re: Tuesday, May 23, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

This baby boomer had no clue about FJ. However, there are very few music clues I'll ever get. I never cared about frontmen and faux celebrities, and as a non-druggie, there was little reason to attend concerts in my youth. I thought the category set up nicely for Tonya (ageism at work), but she's he...

Jai Alai = in what state is jai alai played? Other than that, Florida isn't really *famous* for its jai alai, was a bit undervalued IMHO (especially since Yungling was something I *have* heard of and knew it was Pennsylvanian, I'd at least switch those two, if not put the Jai Alai one in the bottom...

Re: Friday, May 19, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Great game. I thought the Dodgers category was a gift to David, and I don't usually play the sexism card. By dwelling on the old NY years, it was in David's favor as only a young baseball fan in the 60's would know about the Ebbetts field nostalgia and the Duke as the third tenor of Mays/Mantle triu...

Re: Thursday, May 18, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

I thought Nan's FJ bet was pitch perfect. If she hits it, she has a 30K+ with a 10K+ lead which is almost a lock victory (like Hillary's 8 point lead and the Falcolns 24 point lead in the Super Bowl). You don't get many make/miss opportunities to take an insurmountable lead. The second worst thing h...

Re: Tuesday, May 16, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Responding to a clue asking for a film title with "Star Wars" or "Star Trek" or "James Bond" would never fly without making it clear which one is being referred to. If they are asking about the 1977 movie, a response of "Star Wars" should be sufficient. I refuse to call it "A New Hope." What Woppy ...

Re: Tuesday, May 16, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

"Here Comes The Sun" was negbait I think, but I don't want to cross anyones definition of that.. Didn't Alex refer to "Here Comes the Sun?" I wasn't sure if he was saying "NOT Here Comes the Sun" or if he didn't realize "I'll Follow The Sun" is a different song entirely. I think the clue was someth...

My problem is I thought Sinclair Lewis was monitoring the Cannery. Damn those fanciful 19th century names. I am my own negbait. Speaking of bait, it's time for lunch!

WLT Cleopatra in the top box? The picture of a woman dressed like Cleopatra. Polo has goals?!? How did you think people scored in polo? I know you aren't a big sports guy, but polo isn't a mainstream sport and I got it right. I'm a sporty guy and I knew that polo involves chukkars and they scored g...

I considered radio but figured: not a chance, there's probably still a Pulitzer Prize for radio. Turns out I was wrong. There has never been a Pulitzer Prize for radio. But I think my instinct was sound. 1947 would not be the year to end such a prize if it ever existed. My brainstorming also led me...

Re: Thursday, May 11, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]

I've been out of action, just reading the FJ's and a few postings when I've had time. Lots of weird stuff this game. I thought Michael played it a little too safe with his last DD (although it was a fourth box dangerous category (silent films) which turned out as a gimme.) Also questioned going for ...

I went with Medusa also... I'll have a dose of Medusa. It took a moment to even think of one female besides the snake lady and I was OK with Hera when I thought of the name. Then I decided to go with the one I knew was potentially a punishment because I don't know of any negative evil about Hera.

Way to go Alan! While I appreciate his intellect and his gamecraft, I've been having trouble getting on the Alan train as a non-charismatic champion to me. I can't pinpoint it, but it kind of seemed like his trivia ability is too studied and artificial. This is true of the vast majority of super-ch...
