Re: J! in the Media

Alex Jacob (omgwheelhouse here) has been posting some great Jeopardy stuff on twitter recently. Including this recap of Brad Rutter dominating the Ultimate Tournament of Champions final game: https://twitter.com/whoisalexjacob/status/1215744725183094784 and a gif compilation of all of Ken's signatur...

Neil Peart, drummer for Rush, dies at 67.
As a 50-something Canadian male, this is a big part of my youth gone. RIP. F*@K cancer.

I think Brad and his 5M$ from jeopardy over 20 years will be fine.

Re: GOAT Tournament Day 3 (1/9/20) Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I think that may have been one of my favourite hours of Jeopardy. Lots of great games over the years, but I enjoyed these ones tonight. The writers stepped up their game for prime time! Fun categories. I just wish one of them would have finished Lizzo's lyric the other day for the category "I took a...

Re: GOAT Tournament Day 2 (1/8/20) Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Can someone tell me how they got to Communist Manifesto from the clue? I had nothing. Famous European document from the 19th century that seemed to be pointing to shaking up the existing system is what got me there. I wasn't super confident, but couldn't think of anything else that fit. I think you...

Re: GOAT Tournament Day 2 (1/8/20) Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

For FJ #2 I had Napoleon and King George III. I blame the Bugs Bunny where he "teaches" his nephew Cyde about American History for making me think George III was short. :D I wrote Napoleon and Wellington then said wait, that’s not a world leader, tried to think of the contemporary British royal and...

Re: ABC Plays Keepaway

The idea of letting millionaires play Who Wants to Be a Millionaire doesn't sit right with me. Like, if there should be one precondition for being a contestant, it should be not already being a millionaire . Perhaps “What Charity Wants a Million Dollars?” didn’t resonate with the producers as a pot...

Re: GOAT Tournament Day 2 (1/8/20) Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

These guys truly are amazing. Brad is uncharacteristicLY looking slow and inaccurate here. Well... he did get beaten soundly by Alex Jacob in the all star tournament, so perhaps the $5M that he's won from trivia has slightly reduced the desire to win. James looks super strong. Ken does too, but some...

Re: GOAT Tournament Day 1 (1/7/20) Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I wonder about the strategy of a true DD every time... If your success rate is low, you lose. Going all in didn't work for Brad, so he might want to change the strategy. On the other hand, it didn't seem to slow James or Ken down. Maybe Brad just needs to know more stuff? (I can't believe I'm sayin...

Great game. Tough questions (ugh. missed the astronomers final). Go Ken! I wonder about the strategy of a true DD every time... If your success rate is low, you lose. Re: J! in the Media

Article on the Archive (bless all of them): The chroniclers of Jeopardy! Wow, that was a lovely article: well written and without the snideness that articles about those deep into any fandom expect. Congrats to the archivists, and thanks for your ongoing efforts! Though, as someone on this and the ...

... protest a periodic table question: 'True or false, "J" is the only letter not present in a atomic symbol on the periodic table.' I should know this, but what is the controversy (please pronounce this British style in your head, con - TROH - versy) here? True, yes? I believe it was true until th...

Re: LL83: Learned League

I went to the registration page of the World Wars mini league to check it out but apparently the mere act of doing so has got me registered. That's also fine and dandy as long as it's over by the end of the month, when I'll be incommunicado for a while. It commences 13 Jan and goes for 12 matches s...

Re: LL83: Learned League

Congrats to teapot37 for winning the jboardom private rundle: the top 3 in the rundle also qualified to the championship in their public rundle! It was an honour to be trounced. I regressed to the mean: ending 10-10-5 in my public rundle, and hitting my career correct answer pct. Anyone stave off re...

Shoutout to Ironhorse for writing this in the Final Jeopardy clues thread earlier this year: Geography: This is the only UN-recognized nation state named after a historical woman. What is St. Lucia? A momentous day in the Pruss-Knobel household: cmp146 and I play each other in both the public Magnolia A and private JBoard rundles. Love triumphs over all. Loser gets to pack lunches tomorrow. Even in losing, I win: the kids have lunches provided at school today. HA! For Q1, I knew it was ...

Re: LL83: Learned League

A momentous day in the Pruss-Knobel household: cmp146 and I play each other in both the public Magnolia A and private JBoard rundles. In A Mag this match might actually mean something: we are both within shouting distance of making the championship. It is still unlikely, as there are other people in...

Re: 2020 Online Test announced - Jan 28, 29, 30

Getting back on this horse! I got bucked off at the in-person test this summer in Vegas, but I have yet to do the same online. I'm inspired by some people here and in my social media (and on the show!) who have dedicated themselves to working hard at getting better at trivia. I hope to carve out som...

Re: LL83: Learned League

I was surprised by the get rate on Markov: math is often one of the hardest categories, and Markov Chains are hardly high-school math. 35% is pretty high, considering! Where did the non-mathy people hear about Markov Chains? (No hope for me yesterday as I gave up a 9(5)... Assumed it was Spam, defen...
