Re: Wednesday, November 7, 2012 Game Recap & Discussion (SPOILERS)

Thank you, ChemTeacher, for finally answering a question I have had for many, many years: would TPTB permit a contestant to wear a periodic table tie on the show? I considered wearing a presidents tie, but was a bit afraid they would just disqualify me on the spot for even being so brash as to think...

Re: Tuesday, October 16, 2012 Game Recap & Discussion (SPOILERS)

Disappointed Forks Over Knives was a Triple Stumper even after they made the clue "Forks Over _____". Everybody should know about this diet . It took me 15 years to be convinced it was beneficial and practicable. Now I believe it's essential. So does Bill Clinton, and, we learned today, James Camero...

Re: A Piece of Archive Trivia

The Archive went live Nov. 30, 2004, which you'll recognize as a banner day in J! history.

I had hoped to get it up starting day 1 of Season 21, but it took a little longer to get into place than expected.

Re: Jeopardy!'s new affiliate in Cleveland

Although I was initially skeptical and a little upset about the channel change, I have to give WOIO's treatment of Jeopardy! an A+ grade. 1) It's in HD, and it looks just as good as it ever did. 2) No channel bug, no lottery crawls, no Mark Johnson interrupting with doomsday weather warnings every t...

I think a lot of us would gladly pay $100 for a Jeopardy!-made DVD. I've never heard of that being offered before.

And for any error that doesn't occur in a J!/DJ! clue, click the [suggest correction] link at the bottom of the game. It only takes a few seconds to submit a correction suggestion through the Archive, and it's the most reliable way to ensure that your suggestion will be promptly reviewed and approve...

Re: Wednesday, September 19, 2012 Game Recap & Discussion (SPOILERS)

Despite the chattiness, my impression is that those games tore through clues much faster. This could be in part because of the lower maximum clue length (the TV screens couldn't accommodate as many words back then as they do today), but the average clue length might actually be the same, with the re...

In 2010, she signed in as "CC". I suspect that she did so in 2003 as well, and the Archive's nicknaming her "CCH" is in error. Does anyone have the 2003 recording to check?

Re: New season, new Archivists wanted

This talk of contestant podium nicknames reminds me of a brief embarrassing incident when I was called up for a rehearsal round. Anxious to get rolling, I wrote my initials on the podium. Contestant coordinator Glenn Kagan, playing "Alex", simply shook his head at me and said, "Can't play." I hit th...

Neville has pointed out another little rule--we reproduce contestant nicknames as closely as possible to how the contestants themselves wrote them on their podiums.

Re: New season, new Archivists wanted

Recording to computer--using either a TV card (which records high definition (HD) ATSC signals from over-the-air (OTA), if that's enough acronyms for you) or a video capture card that would allow you to capture the video out of your DVR. There are also DVD-based VTRs that allow you to record to a DV...
