Re: Learned League 87 -- Nov/Dec 2020

Definitely got Barefoot Contessa from Food Network, my wife and kids watched that show quite a bit. I always thought she was a closet serial killer... That one had a higher get rate than I expected as I didn't really see any way into it other than through the show. I hadn't heard of the movie either...

Re: Learned League 87 -- Nov/Dec 2020

Yesterday was one of those serendipitous days where I didn't need to think too much about any of the questions. I was pretty surprised to see the overall low get rate this morning as I pretty much insta-got the 5 I answered correctly (in about 5 minutes of think time) and lets face it, I'm only in C...

Re: Learned League 87 -- Nov/Dec 2020

Why isn't Vatican City also correct? Am I missing something obvious, again? Yep, distance: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Federico+Fellini+International+Airport/@42.9379345,11.4647348,8z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x64a5023c1e9c3331!8m2!3d44.0201463!4d12.6119908 It'd be like flying into New York City t...

Re: Learned League 87 -- Nov/Dec 2020

8/12 on the Mid-Season Classic. Got credit for Beider Manhoff (for Baader Meinhof) Definitely not my question set. 6/12 correct. Should have been 7, but for reasons unknown, I put something like Baden-Meinhoff. No chance at getting any of the other 5. Not mine either, I only got 4 for my worst MSC ...

Re: Learned League 87 -- Nov/Dec 2020

two teenage daughters = instaget on Meghan Trainor. Didn't hurt that she performed at the Rockefellar tree lighting show the other day. I got 4 on the day, missing the Hindu one (NHO it) and Guggenheim, which I am a bit upset at myself about. I dismissed the guggenheim museum thinking it more of a c...

Re: Learned League 87 -- Nov/Dec 2020

GOLF hole?!?! That was all that made sense to me given that I figured a mine, well, or anything like that wouldn't fit the clue, the Greenbriar resort is in WV, and the year of 1884 was when golf was being introduced to the US. A bit of a guess, but when I thought of it, it made total sense. I had ...

Re: Learned League 87 -- Nov/Dec 2020

Is 98% correct for "Ice rink" the all-time record? It couldn't be too far off. I couldn't believe it got an average score as high as 0.5. (In my case, I got a '1' on it since my opponent must have seen 'Carnegie' right in my profile and figure that one was a gimme, too.) I gave it a 2, my opponent ...

Re: Learned League 87 -- Nov/Dec 2020

I only missed Luxemburg Friday, after narrowing that down to Lux, Liechtenstein, and France/Frantz. I went with Frantz because, although I understand that they are homophones, the thought that just leaving out the o was what made it a homophone struck me as odd. I play a lot of poker, tata I first h...

Re: Learned League 87 -- Nov/Dec 2020

11% on Newlywed Game? Probably the most surprised I've been in 14 seasons about a low get-rate. I suppose probably a lot of people snap answered TPIR and didn't go any further but Newlywed was the first thing I thought of, other than the dating game and those prizes felt not appropriate for that. I'...

Re: Learned League 87 -- Nov/Dec 2020

Yesterday was the polar opposite from MD10 (5 rights, all instagets). 1 right, and a lost Koin flip on caballero/gaucho which hurt as it turned a tie into a 1(1) - 2(3) loss. NHO of Anna Freud, the play, or the Prince/Chappelle thing, which is funny in hindsight in that Prince stole the photo of Cha...

Re: Learned League 87 -- Nov/Dec 2020

I haven’t bowled in like 30 years, so yeah, no I was kind of hoping for that....and I figured, despite your crap math score, that you would know that algebra was derived from arabic. Thanks to that I actually beat morbeedo, 6(5)- 4(4)! Defensive loss for me in my C Rundle 7(5)-8(5). I missed Godot ...

Re: Learned League 87 -- Nov/Dec 2020

I remembered pastoral from a recent season (Season 81, as I later learned) to give me a classical music question. Didn't matter in my regular rundle as my opponent forfeited. I did get a 0 on a lit question in the JBoardlite rundle, that won't happen very often...I ended up with 4 right, missing the...

Re: Learned League 87 -- Nov/Dec 2020

First bagel in 4 seasons yesterday, the only one I had a shot on was Geronimo but that name just didn't come to mind. My day: Q1. My kids were born in 2005 and 2008, so we missed the timeframe on this book despite going through hundreds of kids books between the 2 of them. Guessed penguins. Q2. Went...

Re: Learned League 87 -- Nov/Dec 2020

I find questions like Q6 yesterday so hard to defend. Its a sports question that, at first glance, is hard as I certainly did not know the answer, but really ends up being, "Name an old famous yankee." My opponent was British and not great at sports, so that got the 3. Of course, he named the correc...

Re: Learned League 87 -- Nov/Dec 2020

Lol - I put caviar for the Jell-O question! That was way off Changed IL/IN to IN/KY for the Monopoly board I had the same answer, played so much but couldn't remember which one was by itself....also had O'Harris for O'Higgins. I knew it was something like that from playing geoguessr and noticing O'...

I just joined the Jboard lite rundle - FWIW I bounce around between A and B rundles and sometimes C.
We have an even number! Don't worry about your superior intellect - we will dumb you down soon enough:).

Re: Learned League 86 - Aug/Sep 2020

I almost un-registered from the 60's Music ML when I couldn't answer a single one of the sample questions but I'm glad I didn't. So far, there's only been a few I cold didn't know (Walden, Born to be Wild, and Blue Moon) and most of the others I've been able to puzzle out. Good stuff!

Re: Learned League 86 - Aug/Sep 2020

Finished up LL86 with personal records in TCA, TMP, and 3 pointers and 12/38 in my C Rundle which I'm pretty happy with...Ended up with a disappointing 4(4) - 4(2) tie with the rundle leader yesterday. Found it pretty hard to defend (obviously), my opponents film score was his best of the days quest...

Re: Learned League 86 - Aug/Sep 2020

When I first read yesterday's set I thought that I was going to end up with a 0(0), but Ockham clicked on the reread and my educated guesses of Christie and FIFA panned out. I ended up with a tie. I guessed Turkmenistan for the former Soviet republic. I also guessed Charles Manson for Ozzy Osbourne...
