When I was on the show, Maggie was clear--no hand signals of any sort. No exceptions. That was a hard and fast rule in the briefing room that day. What happened to that rule?
I never heard of that, but plenty of people have waved or given some sort of gesture.

Yeah, there's lots of evidence he was being deliberate about it. So basically, screw him. And Jeopardy needs to do a much better job. It was unconscionable to leave that in. They should have kicked him off the show immediately. I found his Facebook page and it had a picture of the Rat Pack with Sin...

I skipped any consideration of Hawaii since it wasn’t a state in 1947 and therefore unlikely to have a National Park at that time. Went directly to Florida and the Everglades.
There are National Parks in Samoa and USVI. The first park was also in a non-state at the time.

Re: Tuesday, April 27, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Honestly, they should've removed the word "subtropical". By Köppen climate classification, a pretty sizable portion of the continental US is "subtropical", including places you wouldn't think of as such, like NYC and Pittsburgh. And including most of Hawaii which, as noted above, is literally in th...

I actually wrote down "What is Istanbul, not Constantinople?" as a joke response. Think they'd have taken it?
I don’t see why not.

I also figured this one out.

Seriously, someone explain to me the logic of both Kelly and Dan's wagers. Dan's especially.
What was wrong with Kelly’s wager?

Re: Reretaken Down

This is kind of Jeopardy related but I guess it fits best here. I was performing in a Zoom reading of "Midsummer Night's Dream" yesterday and the actor playing Puck was Meryl Federman, who came back from having no money in the first half of the 2007 Teen Tournament to win the whole thing. https://w...

Re: Friday, April 23, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I would bet $1 from the lead unless I absolutely hated the category. Movies aren’t my strong suit but I would have risked the buck here. I would never consider betting down to where I was a dollar ahead of third’s doubled score if I got it wrong. Even if I loved the category. In this game, Kelly is ...

Re: Friday, April 23, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

FJ! was basically "have you seen the movie or not". I suppose one could have gotten it without seeing the movie if one was paying attention during awards season and allowed oneself to connect "German" with "Christoph Waltz", who swept the big three supporting actor awards that year with the role, j...

If anyone on this board has a serious guess as to why Dan DID NOT wager everything, I would be glad to hear it.

Jeesh. Talk about just throwing away a chance to win $20K+!!!!
My guess would be he is bad at math and didn’t notice the situation or else was just content with second place.

Re: Friday, April 23, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

These are the FJ wagers that drive me nuts. Difference between 2nd and 3rd place is only $1000; why not bet it all for a shot at $21,200, and a return the next day?! I wish I knew. I hope someone like that is on the show with me if I ever get on. Didn’t see the movie and thought it was more recent ...

Re: The all-time Jeopardy! leaderboard (1984-present) (MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS)

Still a ways to go. Today’s game was number 7005 in the archive and it was the 8404th game played since 1984. And quite a few of games from the first 12 seasons are just partials. Also, not all TOCers are even represented. Only seven from the first season have a regular game archived. Obviously, the...

Re: 2021 Current Events Discussion Thread

There is an issue with the 23rd amendment, which grants the district three electoral votes. What becomes of them? Could a president claim his official residence as 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue? Could you imagine if in the last election you heard “With a final tally of 2-0, DC gives its three votes to Do...

Bonus question: Lansing, Michigan was also the site of the last what, which closed its doors in 1988. Playboy Club ... Re: Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions alternates - who were they

Michael Shutterly of 1988 seems to be confirmed as the alternate on the archive There is a note on his player page to this effect, and an archivist probably wouldn't have entered that information without convincing evidence, but OTOH, the ToC contestant from that year that I talked to didn't have a...

Wasn't Aaron touting himself as the youngest guest host? Looks like he got edged out by a surprise contender.
He may not have been aware of Cohen’s gig when he said that. But he is young enough to be the son of at least seven of the others. (Cutoff is 20 years for possible parentage).
