Re: Jeopardy! Interim Host Thread

Jeopardy! has announced three more future guest hosts: Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, 60 Minutes correspondent Bill Whitaker and The Big Bang Theory star Mayim Bialik. Aaron Rodgers and Mayim Bialik are obviously placeholders and/or folks to get eyeballs on the show for a week or two,...

Re: Wednesday, January 13, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I was playing along at home last night and had a question about a situation that's come up a few times... It was concerning DJ!'s Notable Women for $1200 She had taken a major role in the family business even before her brother Gianni's tragic death in 1997 Tanay rang in and answered "Versace" (sam...

Re: Tuesday, January 12, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I matched a contestant for FJ!...unfortunately, it was Dusty. Well, technically, we didn't match - I at least put down "Sasha". That was a weird FJ!...it almost feels like it was a DD that got promoted. There's no trick necessary, no careful reading of the clue, no WECIB...just "Who was the dog on S...

Re: Jeopardy! Interim Host Thread

Here is a 1-clue sample of that guy reading a clue: https://archive.org/details/qbgb_20210112 Huh. Not the greatest reading, IMO...a little bit stiff. Emphasizing the "this" is always a nice touch by the host, and sometimes necessary to remind contestants what they're looking for. As an example, "S...

Re: Season 37 Preemptions

Warning to viewers of WBZ, Boston: because of the State of the City address by Mayor Walsh on Tuesday January 12, J! has been moved to WSBK, channel 38. At least, that's what last night's crawl said - I think this has happened before, but I could be wrong.

Re: Monday, January 11, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Quickest FJ! get in the Ken Jennings era. I took the intended route of "long live the" = "viva el/la/los/las", and the 1960s category was enough to get me to the right final word, Viagra commercial or no. In the "it just didn't stick" category, I watched about 4-5 minutes of a Keith Haring show on a...

Re: FJs for the 1/4/21 week

:( :( :(  :( :( :( Interesting question about taking "astrological" out of the FJ!. I said no. For some reason, I always place Hair at 1970. Looking at the 1969 Tonys, it's more gettable than I first thought - none of the other musicals nominated would make sense, with either "Pro...

Re: Friday, January 8, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I went with "isomer" for Final. Turns out it's from the Greek for equal + share. I couldn't decide between the two until I made the connection with "topography." I bet the writers expected players to get it from Utopia , famously coined from the Greek for "no place". I would have thought that Greek...

Re: Jeopardy! Interim Host Thread

When Ken was a contestant it got to a point that Ken did not need rehearsal practice and he was allowed to play host for that day's other contestants. At some point Ken got in hot water when he went off stage to the side to check his tie, using Alex's mirror, and the staff went crazy because clue m...

Re: Jeopardy! Interim Host Thread

Ken started taping in late November. Before Alex got really sick they did ten shows a week. The two weeks of vault episodes at the end of December bought them some more time. So it probably didn’t take long to catch up. While working from the other side of the host’s podium is different than playin...

Re: Friday, January 8, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

.... This is an FJ which is easy to overthink as the name of the lady and even the Greek roots are a distraction...I reworded it in my head as "what is the term for different forms of the same element?" "Different forms of the same element" would be allotropes. That's why the clue threw me off for ...

Re: Friday, January 8, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

A nice tribute to Alex at the end. I wonder what, if any, tricks they used to get it in there without messing up the game. Anyone stopwatch the episode to see if it's of the normal length? The episode was of normal length. They usually run between 19 1/2 and 20 minutes and this one was 19'37". The ...

Re: Thursday, January 7, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

A little sad to hear Alex mention at the start of the show that "Jeopardy remains the same" on today's show when discussing how Christmas is so different with technology and shopping online. Anyone else get a little chill from that? Like for many hear, FJ! was an instaget. Doesn't hurt that I'm the ...

Re: Wednesday, January 6, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Time ran out on me for FJ!. I matched the two incorrect responses was a "write anything", knowing that it was 100% wrong because it was too recent. I knew the other incorrect response was wrong because it was WWII - but a great distractor, and probably why Alex admonished the contestants to pay atte...

Re: Season 37 Preemptions

If there are any Bostonians, it's on WSBK tonight. Just caught the scroll at the bottom of the screen - should have figured they'd do it.

I can certainly understand why they preempted it - it's annoying, but news is more important than J!. In fact, without news, there would be no J!.

Re: Jeopardy! Interim Host Thread

One week might not be too bad for some guest hosts. They could be doing a reduced load - walkthrough with guest host Tuesday morning, 2 games Tuesday afternoon, 3 games on Wednesday. If my info is accurate, the 5-shows-a-week load is what they did for Alex's last shows that are airing this week, and...

Re: Tuesday, January 5, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Am I the only one who thought FJ! was a little bit of a trick question? I guess part of that is my fault - for some reason, when I saw STATE NAME ORIGINS, I literally thought, "Okay, we eliminate any state with north/south/west, since they would have similar origins." Oops. I matched Brayden and Mol...

Re: Monday, January 4, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Alex paused after "Zenger" was given, so I don't think he was sure just that should be accepted either. Yep. I think he was wondering, "Did I tell them all three names were needed? No? Damn." Yeah, I think that kind of ruined the category accidentally. If it had been, say, "(John Quincy) Adams" or ...

Re: Monday, January 4, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Nope on the FJ! - I read Don Quixote, but it was about 25 years ago. I had no recollection of an island being part of the plot to get poor Sancho to become Don Quixote's squire. I also misread the clue as pertaining to simply the title character. I came up with "Phineas" Fogg, which I knew was wrong...
