Re: 2020 in review and whats in store for 2021

Incidentally, archive question - would it make sense to acknowledge the last game taped with an audience pre-pandemic / first game taped without a studio audience? Wouldn't this just be the end of S36? And so in answer to Opus's question, wouldn't it be "One of Matt Napolitano, Kelly Lake, or Zach ...

Re: 2020 in review and whats in store for 2021

If those 10 audience-free shows placed a Cone of Cleanliness around Trebek and stopped the post-show chit-chat at center stage's neutral territory, that would push it back to the episode that aired on May 1, presumably taped either the first week of March or late February. They did away with post-g...

Re: 2020 in review and whats in store for 2021

Guest we'll have to wait a week and a day to know the names of the last three contestants of the Trebek era. That's kind of a sad distinction, but definitely one I'd mention if it were me. So who was the last contestant to speak with Alex from less than 6 feet away? I assume it would have to be one...

Re: Final Jeopardy! Clues

WORD ORIGINS This word entered the English lexicon with the 1798 publication of a scientific breakthrough that was made, in part, on a dairy farm. What is 'vaccine'? (vacca is Latin for 'cow') Nice clue, especially since I got it wrong AND the answer was obvious to me afterwards. My favorite kind. ...

Re: What tournaments are in store for Season 37?

With interim hosts, I don’t see them filming a tournament. Then why would they bother with the College interviews? I think they've had the College Championship page up since around the start of the new season, meaning Alex was around. It might take a little extra on the "talent" portion to host a c...

Re: What tournaments are in store for Season 37?

What's a "normal" number of 4-day champs to make the tourney? Right now, we have 6 of them according to their tourney tracker, but hopefully that will come down to 5 next week. (Good luck, Brayden, if you're reading this thread!) Is that a lot? Way fewer? Still feels about right? With all due respec...

Re: Fun with GSN's "Master Minds"

Weird little quirk in my guide data - I'm pretty sure they called yesterday's show season 2 episode 11, and tomorrow's show episode 13, with today's episode being labelled "season 1 episode 0". Normally, that wouldn't faze me, as maybe they taped today's episode as a "test pilot" reboot with the new...

Re: Thursday, October 14, 2004 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I'll admit, I'd NHO Bryan Trottier, but "dynasty in the early 80s" nails it to NYI. See, I was thinking they specifically chose someone with a French name to give a TOM for either the Canadiens or Nordiques, but I didn't feel like making the coin flip. So I was going to pass, and if Ken's initial r...

Re: Thursday, October 14, 2004 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

How'd people fare on the hockey clues? I went 5/5, but I thought the hardest one by far was the Islanders clue. Granted, Ken accidentally turned it into "name the OTHER team in New York", which should be a rebound for the brave. I'll admit, I'd NHO Bryan Trottier, but "dynasty in the early 80s" nai...

Re: Thursday, October 14, 2004 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Also, in the icing video - they couldn't have had Tie ice the puck? He gets it before the blue line, so it's a legal pass. Offside (though Ken said "offsides"), not icing. Sorry, brain malfunction. Yeah, I know the difference - and I even know it's not "offsideS". I was more distracted that Tie was...

Re: Season 37 Preemptions

Boston viewers will no longer need to worry about Alex's last episode on January 8 being preempted by Patriots All Access. Effective this week, WBZ is moving Patriots All Access is being moved to Saturdays, though this does mean the Saturday reruns will be preempted. Yup, thanks for the heads up - ...

Re: Friday, December 18, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I lost the coin flip on the Eagles song by guessing Glen Frye. Other than just knowing, is there a reason I should have guessed Don Henley? I mean, that was a pretty big song in the 80s. It hit #1 on the Billboard charts and got a Grammy nomination. When I was a kid, it was on the radio All. The. T...

Re: FJs for the 12/14/20 week

:(  :( :( :( :( NHO Joan Sutherland or Utzon, but had the vague idea she was operatic. Went with Lincoln Center because Moonstruck was lingering from the Cher clue a week or two ago, and because I go there once a year (most years). If asked, I would have guessed the Sydn...

Re: Friday, December 18, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

The description of "Instaget guess" for FJ! fit me perfectly. It just seemed to scream Hallmark, and I couldn't come up with another viable response. Of course, considering that I'm a hunky but low-earning Christmas tree lot owner who's doing good deeds for a haughty city girl stuck in my small town...

Re: Thursday, December 17, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Well, at least I matched Brayden for FJ!...sort of. I think my answer of simply "Don Quixote" fit the clue a little better, since it was asking for a title character. "Man of La Mancha" would refer to the musical, while the full title translation is "The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha"...

Re: December 21-January 1 Reruns

I agree - I'm a little disappointed that they just copy/pasted the "Celebrating Alex / Best of Alex" episodes from Netflix/Hulu that were shown within the past year or so. I guess it's good for those who don't have the streaming services, but with well over 8,000 episodes, surely there are others? I...

Re: Wednesday, December 16, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

Lithotripsy was a weird clue. Kidney stones is certainly one correct response, but lithotripsy is also used for gallstones. I said "stones", and probably would have gone "gall" on a BMS. I hope they had that on the sheet - it would 100% be an easy reversal after a 2 second Google search. I had gall...

Re: Wednesday, December 16, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)

I too thought ROYALTY meant "Watch out - it's not necessarily British!", but I guessed the right answer. I was primed by a recent episode of Master Minds, which asked about the "divorced/beheaded/died" rhyme. I figured it was some oblique reference to the whole marriage annulment thing, but apparent...
