Perfecto thwarted when I missed the mark playing guess-the-planet (I guessed Venus, thinking that it's fairly close and maybe its rate of revolution isn't that different from Earth's).

Well played.

As for me the week was

I had "artist of the year" and got wind chill a second too late to count it. I was quite relieved to see the Teen Tourney start.

Passed on New Artist as I assumed it was still based on the judgment of a work, even though that's not mentioned in the name. Tried to come up with something of a cross-platform nature and the best I could come up with was Video Direction.

I don't know that you could be ruled wrong for that. Arguably, it was a better answer than wind chill since it is what the anemometer measures and is shown on weather reports. For wind chill, they should have asked for this computed (or derived) value.

They said that the anemometer "aided" in the experiments that determined the value. It's not as clear-cut but it's what led me away from wind speed.

The clue also said this measurement was first determined in the 1940s and anemometers had been around for awhile before that, so I don't think wind speed would have been acceptable.

There is no way that wind speed was first used in weather reports due to those experiments. Wind speed had been reported in weather reports long before the 1940's.

Pretty much the only reason I know it.
For a long time, I had just sort of assumed that Kamchatka was a name that the game-makers picked because it was "memorable", not necessarily the name of the whole area. I had, though, recently read the wikipedia page about the Korean Airlines flight that the Soviets shot down, which led me to reading about Kamchatka.

Somebody hasn't played Risk.
I think there should be a separate poll to see, of all people who got "Kamchatka," how many got it because of Risk.

(and perhaps how many others got it because of the vodka of that name)

Knew Kamchatka, also from Risk, but couldn't quite pull it to the front of my brain fast enough.
