Hey why don't you all drop it already? (LOL at people coming out of the woodwork to complain about too many posts arguing about Jeopardy! rules.) And seaborgium, you picked this fight intentionally because you knew it was a sore spot, or what? He will harp on it for as long as he lives, or until I distract him with something else. I saw a reason to help him show off what an authority he is on humor, and knew how to make it happen. No, I'm kind of a jerk sometimes, and I can't (or don't) resist being shitty when a particular poster comes around doing what he's notorious for. And jpahk has a good sense of humor.
edit: my omission of omgwheelhouse in this post is not meant to imply anything about him. It's just that I've met jpahk in person and interacted with him enough that I feel qualified to speak on his sense of humor.

I'm sticking to my original theory that mbclev is actually seaborgium's alternate personality, created by his fractured psyche in order to get attention by having inane arguments with himself on the internet. I'll remain firmly convinced of this until either the day I die, or the day when mbclev makes it onto Jeopardy! and proves that he is not actually Stefan Goodreau.omgwheelhouse wrote: Hey why don't you all drop it already? For the record, mbclev was around the old Sony board long before seaborgium ever was.

Thanks for the link TIK. Sow, so he really did know Nilai was within range of his score, and still wrote that? Truly ballsy.

Re: Tuesday, February 12, 2013 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]
Wow, that's pretty great. So his thought process was:
- I have a lock over Barrett.
- This category is Barrett's specialty.
- Nilai's a freshman, so he probably hasn't studied this kind of stuff yet.
I still think he should have bet something, but I haven't heard of that successful a read of one's Jeopardy opponents (and following through on it) since Pawson's Gambit. (In his sixth game, Dan Pawson went into FJ $800 ahead of a tough competitor, Jason Thweatt, and he decided based on Jason's performance, particularly on a couple of DDs, that Jason was weak on the kind of lateral thinking often necessary for FJs. So he bet $799. One triple stumper later, Dan was the first superchamp in nearly two years.)

Also, even if he doesn't win the tourney, Leonard still takes home $40,000. Its not like he's going to drop down to $2,000 like in a regular game.

Leonard's lucky FJ was NOT a math question.

ehhh... I think he's lying because he didn't want to admit that he goofed. If he's telling the truth, that turns me off even more.
"I'm so confident that you have no chance at the FJ that I'm willing to make this proclamation that I've won"

Re: Tuesday, February 12, 2013 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]
yeah, that's crazy. i don't mind not making the cover wager if you can get a read on your opponents. nor do i mind writing the cutesy message if he knew he was going to win. but writing the message when nilai had a chance to pass him with a right answer? no no. that's basically taunting nilai, which i find abhorrent. "i'm gonna win because you're getting this wrong" is totally different from "i'm gonna win because i know i got this right".
kinda wishing i hadn't read the interview, actually. either he's lying or he's kind of a punk.

I agree, Joon. I think he goofed on the math, and he's trying to play it off as being confident rather than admit his mistake. What if Nilai had been a military history buff (as I was, even at that age), and had known it? This is Jeopardy, after all, and even in the Teen Tournament, you're not going to make it to the finals strictly based on what you learned in school.

All this back and forth has simply made me want to rewatch John Carpenter's WWTBAM win...
The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.
