Back to normal.

I guessed "a city in India" for Wednesday's clue. But I don't think that's exactly what Mark meant when he worded the question, so I didn't check it.

...but the senator, while insisting he was not intoxicated, could not explain his nudity.

If I had 50 cents for every math question I got right, I'd have $6.30 by now.

You mean you wrote the words "a city in India", rather than guessing a specific one? That seems like an odd choice.

I said New Delhi. And I got Romania eventually, but I jumped from Moldavia to Moldova before I used Wallachia to vault me to my senses, so I'm counting it as a miss.

After thinking of Twelfth Night, I didn't try hard enough to think of something better.

I came close-ish to the Medals and Decorations response. I thought of Quetzalcoatl but didn't follow the bread crumbs to the correct response.

Pretty much had no clue on Wednesday.

Sort of. I am pretty sure I would not have written "a city in India". But when time ran out, that was all I had. No time left to write anything at all.

Monday: No guess. I know nothing about that book.
Tuesday: No guess.
Wednesday: Somehow thought they were looking for another English city, and was stumped as to how a city smaller than London could have bigger circulation.
Thursday and Friday: Instaget.

I know what a quetzal is, but it didn't register. I know nothing about flags, and I clammed on "cosa nostra" since I wasn't sure if it was right.

I said Mumbai for Wednesday's FJ, and quetzalcoatl instead of just quetzal for the medals clue.

Mon - Tom Jones. No excuse, just total brain lapse. Another day, I might have gotten it, but not Monday.
Wed - Tokyo. Might have eventually gotten to India...maybe...
Thu - Long and Winding Road, because spluh. Stupid Beatles.
The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.

I'd call this one of the easiest weeks of FJs in memory...and yet I managed to miss two of them...!
Good news first - literally:
When I was a kid, I had a copy of the Good News Bible whose paperback had newspaper mastheads all over its cover. For Wednesday's clue I immediately flashed on The Times of India from that cover...
http://www.amazon.com/Good-News-Modern- ... +paperback

Tuesday I second-guessed my instachoice Ferdinand to go with Phillip - wasn't even sure which number, though I note Phillip II of Spain was aka Phillip I of Portugal...
Friday I wish I had second-guessed. I immediately thought of 12th Night - so called for its supposed first performance date, not for anything in the text - and never considered anything else. The second time in a month or so I've botched a clue about my favorite Shakespeare play...

Never getting the bird...too slow to trigger Romania...but Cosa Nostra is something else I've known since I was a very young kid - when I wasn't reading the Good News Bible I read The Valachi Papers in The Reader's Digest...

Jude on Monday (and Thursday!). I work with a lot of international newspapers in my job and still couldn't come up with Times of India.
