Border Patrol was what came to mind, but I didn't check either box because I clammed on the clue.

Clammed on the Border whatever

For the season:
FJ: 86-79
Teacher's 6-4
Teen 8-2
TOC: 3-7
Longest FJ winning streak: 7 (active 2)
Longest FJ losing streak: 6
5/5:1
4/5:7
3/5:9
2/5:10
1/5:6
0/5:0

The three FJs I missed weren't too far out of bounds. I didn't connect 5280 to a mile, Moon River I've heard of but did not know its author. I knew they were talking about Becket but did not connect him to the right city.

Not sure how I didn't pull out Missouri and Hunley was another that sank me.

For some reason I jumped right to "border protection," even though I had never heard of that agency's title. Must have inferred it from the syntax.

I probably wouldn't have been confident enough to pull the trigger on "Missouri" if I had been behind a podium.

"Xanadu" was a disappointing miss. I might have gotten to it if I had had more time to think.

I really thought that the softball FJ thing would be just another 2 week (or so) phase, but there seems to be no end in sight.

"Old Man River" on Tuesday just to say anything.
No guess on the other two.

And yes, Border Patrol.
Oh, what has science wrought? I sought only to turn a man into a metal-encased juggernaut of destruction powered by the unknown properties of a mysterious living crystal. How could this have all gone wrong?

Border patrol. I was blind enough to other possibilities that I ignored that the clue was in the bottom row and went for it.

Changed from Canterbury to Westminster on Wednesday, because I suddenly became convinced that Canterbury was a random city that popped into my head for no reason and that I needed to change to something I had justification for (never mind trying to justify Canterbury). A dumb moment.

Moon River was the first thing to come to mind, but then I talked myself out of it because I was like "Wait, isn't that a Henry Mancini song?" (Answer: yes, but Mercer wrote the lyrics... d'oh.) Should've been 5/5.

For the Pony Express question I immediately narrowed it down to Kansas and Missouri and then picked the wrong one. Couldn't remember Hunley in time so clammed. For Xanadu, not only did I know it, but I can quote you the first line of the poem in question: "In Xanadu did Kubla Khan a stately pleasure dome decree."

Said Border Patrol, then immediately realized it was probably protection instead. Took the neg.

Took the neg for Border Patrol.

I don't usually track the stats very closely, but so far looks like an abnormally high number of 5-fers this week.

Swanee River on Tuesday. If Moon River had come to mind, I probably would have dismissed it anyway.

I work in Washington. You would not believe the number of police forces we have here (I thought it was around 23; Wikipedia lists a lot more). One day, while commuting home, there was a police car ahead of me that I didn't recognize. Once I caught up to him (yeah, you can do that), I could see that it was labeled "Border Patrol". It got me to wondering just how many illegals they catch around here (though obviously I recognize it was probably here on other official business relating to their headquarters).

We don't have any of these signs around here, fortunately:
