I must say that I was very disappointed that Liz Murphy wasn't one of the selections.
I used to be AWSOP but wanted to be more theatrical.

Re: J! 30th anniversary tournament
I'm almost (not quite) recovered from the first week of October. I too am impressed by the latest batch of videos, as well as by others that have been posted here (Michael Rooney, formidable). I couldn't imagine that my video would be seen by anyone other than the producers, which is why I figured I'd give them an idea of two possible things I could say in the contestant interview. (The contestant interview always presented a challenge for me-- most of my life has been either too boring or too interesting to discuss in public.)
I also think that the producers are inscrutable. You can't even study them for clues the way you used to be able to check who was standing close to Brezhnev in the reviewing stand at the May Day parade. My essay was actually not bad but they posted none of it. So parsing why some were chosen both outright and for the gladiatorial lists while extremely worthy other players weren't is mostly not possible, in my opinion.

You could have upped your signature count to seven games if you'd made it.teapot37 wrote:I know who I'm voting for. (Maybe if I hadn't filmed the most boring video of all time, I coulda been a contender, instead of a bum - which is what I am, let's face it.)

Not that I kid myself that it's any consolation to you, but I can assure you that at least one of the contenders felt at the end of the week like Terry Malloy at the end of the movie-- beaten to a pulp.teapot37 wrote: (Maybe if I hadn't filmed the most boring video of all time, I coulda been a contender, instead of a bum - which is what I am, let's face it.)

Chris, you're not a bum. Leah, I know exactly what that feels like. I'm feeling it right now.Leah wrote:Not that I kid myself that it's any consolation to you, but I can assure you that at least one of the contenders felt at the end of the week like Terry Malloy at the end of the movie-- beaten to a pulp.teapot37 wrote: (Maybe if I hadn't filmed the most boring video of all time, I coulda been a contender, instead of a bum - which is what I am, let's face it.)

Maybe that should have been my selling point. (And I think it could have gone to a maximum of 6. Win first round, wild-card second round (in a losing effort), lose SF or F.)Bamaman wrote:You could have upped your signature count to seven games if you'd made it.teapot37 wrote:I know who I'm voting for. I was counting losing both games in the finals. I wasn't aware how you did your count, but looking it up, you were counting your loss in the UTOC SF as one game, even though it was a two day total match.teapot37 wrote:Maybe that should have been my selling point. Re: J! 30th anniversary tournament
Is there a term for boardies who only show up (or at least log in) just when they are being talked about? Whatever it is, that's me.
Glad some folks are enjoying the KJ cameo. The "Hey Eight-Games" line, of course, was an ad-lib on his part. I also shot a Roger Craig cameo (with a shot of a Joon Pahk crossword!) in Brooklyn but with my amateur storyboarding skills I ended up having to cut it because it made no sense.
But I think Ryan (or maybe Joey) has the video-fan vote wrapped up. He even made my wife laugh, which is a bad sign. And Leah, Brian, MDaunt, and everyone else who has already gone through this, I'm starting to get an idea of what it was like for you. Eight hours in and I think I hit the wall about five hours ago. And judging by the early Twitter evidence I'm starting to think I've played my last Jeopardy! game already. But onward we press to Sunday!

I didn't think they'd put them directly on the internet (Michael Rooney and I were discussing this, and thought probably not, because some people had used copyrighted music, etc.). It was clear that the written blurbs were going to be public.

Obviously, given the other submissions, I was dead in the water. (Speaking of water, I wanted to get the Pacific Ocean in the background, but I was too far away for my iPod's camera.)
Don't sell yourself short! I'm amazed that you & nissley weren't among the 14 already chosen.

I, for one, am shocked --SHOCKED, I TELL YOU -- that Thomas "emanciptation proclamation" Hurley was not offered a Fan Favorite slot. How will we ever right the horrible wrongs of the universe if Thomas isn't given a chance for retribution??!!

Re: J! 30th anniversary tournament
Argh, they couldn't have made the voting any more difficult this week. I started watching regularly in 2006, so this is the first group where I had an idea of who they were outside the videos. The 80s, there were two people I was debating between, so I split my votes between them. (I know, probably not the most sound strategy, but I wanted to help 'em both.) None of the 90s videos really captivated me, so I only voted one night.
When I saw this group of candidates, I thought it was gonna be an impossible decision between Kara and Tom. I liked Erin, Joey, and Ryan, but Kara and Tom are like the untouchables for me. If they decided for some insane reason to reformat Jeopardy! into a family sitcom, I would want Kara and Tom to play the parents. But watching all the videos, now I want Joey to play the older brother, Erin to play the hot girl next door, and Ryan to play the crazy uncle. (And now I actually want this show to happen. Come on, Sony!)
I'll keep my vote secret for now, but I can assure all five of them--you made it a much harder decision than I was anticipating.

Re: J! 30th anniversary tournament
They are having us vote on past players we feel should be in the tournament, but not this???????? I'd vote for that in a heartbeat! Yes, yes, and yes, I would *so* watch this! (Eugene and Catherine would be the staff writers, of course. I was going to come up with a sample script, but I stopped myself, realizing I couldn't do it anywhere near as beautifully as they could do. Working in the question-and-answer format in a sitcom would be priceless. Stefan could be the special guest star in one episode as Kara's boss who she's inviting over for dinner. "But don't serve liederkranz cheese, I hear he's a bit touchy about that. [Canned laughter]."anthontherun wrote:If they decided for some insane reason to reformat Jeopardy! into a family sitcom, I would want Kara and Tom to play the parents.
