I got Sicily, but I can't pinpoint the exact moment that I did, so I didn't check either option. I'm probably capable of recognizing Sicily without Italy if given "volcanic", but the toe probably helped.

On Wednesday, the words "the man called this" made me think (correctly) that they wanted a description rather than a name. Something like "The Prodigal Son" or "The Queen of Sheba" or "The Wandering Jew", as opposed to something like "Thomas" or "Lazarus" or "Paul".

Unfortunately for me, The Prodigal Son came to mind first. I don't really know that story (and I don't know how it ends, and I don't know that there wasn't an innkeeper), but I was pretty sure it was in Luke.

For the season:
60-50
Longest FJ winning streak: 6 (active 4)
Longest FJ losing streak: 4
Teacher tournament: 6-4
Decades: 2-3
College Tournament: 4-1
5/5: 0
4/5: 5
3/5: 6
2/5: 11
1/5: 0
0/5: 0

I didn't think that was Italy, would have thought it was further from Sicily than that, went with Java. The other FJs were done before the music started.

No clue on the extras. Rattlesnake Hill sounded like some kind of barren, remote place in the west and thought of South Dakota but actually clammed.

40+% got all 5 right. I'd wager that's never happened before, except perhaps kids week or teen week.

I thought Sicily was easy before the view expanded; insultingly easy after*.

* But this is from my adulthood-acquired-geography-knowledge perspective -- I'm certain I would not have known this during (or via) college.

Good Samaritan was a headslapper for me. I am ashamed to say it, but I am horrible at geography and would have needed a lot more time to come up with Sicily.

Here is the point at which I recognized Sicily:

Yeah, that. If I'd had to draw the map myself, I wouldn't have put it quite so close to the mainland, but otherwise, easy peasy. I think I knew this in college, but maybe not. I have spent a lot of time since I was little right on through until now poring over maps, frequently adding to the knowledge base.
I like college week. Everything but the "music the kids are listenin' to these days" part. Not that I don't still often enjoy new music, I just don't get their names unless they're on SNL or Letterman, etc.

Breakdown of board scores on FJs for the 2/10/14 week

Post by OrangeSAM »

After 111 respondents:

 50 got all 5 FJ!s
;) 38 got 4 FJ!s
:) 15 got 3 FJ!s
:( 5 got 2 FJ!s
 3 got 1 FJ!
 0 got 0 FJ!s

Average: 4.14 FJ!s correct.

As for me:      /

I got Sicily at the mention of volcanic activity.

I initially started looking at longer phrases (like the Gettysburg Address) but quickly cut that out.
