Spoiler
What is Rio de Janeiro? ("The Girl From Ipanema", "Copacabana")

Except for a brief trip to Canada, my thinking never left the United States. I spent way too much time trying to decide if Los Angeles is coastal. I guess the part around the airport is. Given the correct response, I probably still wouldn't have been able to name both songs. Maybe not even one of them.

I got it but almost went in the wrong direction because of the lyric "The hottest spot north of Havana."

The lyrics of Copacabana refer to the nightclub in NYC, not the hotel in Rio, which is why you have that line.

Here's a map of City of Los Angeles neighborhoods for reference. Only four are on the Pacific coast: Pacific Palisades, Venice, Playa Del Rey, and San Pedro. (Other coastal areas shown on the map are either separate independent cities or unincorporated areas.)

That's a great map. I don't think I realized Venice was part of L.A. And I definitely didn't know that San Pedro and Wilmington were!

I've been to the Venice branch of the Los Angeles (city) Public Library. I have not been to the San Pedro or Wilmington branches, which are the two farthest from where I live (they're the two farthest from much of the population of the city of Los Angeles!).

HISTORY OF U.S. GEOGRAPHY

If not for a 19th-century farmer convincing Congress to alter a proposed border, these four states would meet at a Four Corners.
Spoiler
What are MO, AR, KY, and TN? (The original proposal for Missouri's borders was to continue the 36°30' KY/TN border westward as the MO/AR border. A local farmer by the name of John Hardeman Walker successfully lobbied Congress to let him live in Missouri, hence the Bootheel.)

Chartres - my first guess - has 25,000 people and the cathedral there is 13th century, so obvious negbait. Places like Canterbury or Rheims are also negbait. This site https://interestingengineering.com/the- ... -the-world suggests there are dozens of places which might satisfy the answer, if you can't remember populations of cities to the thousands accuracy.

Maybe another clue to pin it? Something about it being home to the pope?

I've taken the triple stumper from Episode 2 and given it a twist:

THE CALENDAR

Date on which the 20th century BC began
Spoiler
What is January 1, 2000 BC?

Probably would have been March 1, actually (January didn't exist in 2000 BC).

But Blondie and Beetle Bailey did. They've been around forever.
