Lifelong Chicogoan here. Pretty much an instaget for me. I've visited KC once (without coming near the road in question). Also, I'm pretty sure (but can't provide evidence right now) that those are not the only two instances of a road with that name.opusthepenguin wrote: ↑Tue Feb 02, 2021 1:56 pmI got it because I live here, but I'd predict a low get rate without a lot more TOM.Spoiler
Also, I wonder about saying it's "in" Kansas City. At least according to Google Maps, the actual state line runs down the middle of the road. So the east side is in KCMO but west side is in KCK or Westwood or Mission Hills or Prairie Village or Leawood depending on how far south you are.

Interesting to think about.
Spoiler
I guessed Ikea. I'm not completely sure Ikea is wrong. The restaurant and the store can sort of be considered as a single entity. Also I just thought of Costco.

Hard Rock Cafe, thinking that the original "cafe" has grown into an entertainment brand with hotels, casinos, and resorts in addition to the original restaurants. Alas, most of the non-restaurant properties are now under other ownership while retaining a license to use the brand.

THE HUMAN BODY
These are two names for the same substance isolated by Napoleon Cybulski - etymologically, the first is derived from Greek, while the second is a trademarked name derived from Latin, and both are named for where they are produced in the body.

Well, the better quibble would be to know which is which - "Adrenaline is also known as epinephrine" has been a clue 4 times in the last 8 years, in both directions. Seems fair game. Matching "renal" to Latin and "nephros" to Greek is a little tougher, but doable.
I thought of putting in "hormone" instead of "substance", but I felt that might be a little easy. Maybe after cortisol, I think adrenaline would be the next hormone people think of, with perhaps testosterone and insulin coming up too. Not too many options for "name a hormone".
I didn't like the pinning I did with the scientist - it was really more for safety. Perhaps C9H13NO3 would have been a better pinning mechanism - doubtful there's another chemical in the human body with that exact molecular composition that has two names. The chemical formula is probably a little less distracting.

And to properly enough spell both names within 30 seconds.
Jeopardy might ask to write adrenaline in FJ but they will never ask to write epinephrine. Neither appear as an answer to FJ in the archive.

I'm a chemist and am immersed in biochemistry as part of my job, and I didn't get this one. Not sure how the general public would have a chance with it. There are about 5 bazillion "substances" in the human body that you could isolate... I think "hormone" would be better than "substance" - it would at least give you a starting point. I still think it would poll at less than 50% if you did it that way. The chemical formula wouldn't have helped me, and I can even draw the molecular structure from memory!

Re: Final Jeopardy! Clues
I don't see epinephrine as being notably harder to spell than adrenaline, I think either is perfectly askable in FJ with the right clue.
