COLLEGE SPORTS

Of the eight men's basketball head coaches the Kansas Jayhawks have had in 123 years, this 1st coach is the only one with an overall losing record
Spoiler
Who is James Naismith?

[ETA: Five days after posting this clue I finally got around to listening to the May 6th episode of the Recreational Thinking podcast, which happened to contain an almost exact question but in reverse (asking for the school given the coach). This was a complete coincidence; while I am often inspired by Yogesh's question writing, I would never blatantly copy from him (nor anyone else, for that matter).]

similar questions happens all the time in trivia writing, look how much it happened in LL just this past season. There's a difference between trivia and trivial, and there is only so much trivia to go around. I asked the same question about 18 months ago at one of my trivia nights.

I would have to return my degree from Kansas if I missed that one.

This is related to another fact about VPs that I've heard come up, namely that
Spoiler
At Nixon's inauguration, there were four men on the stage (Johnson, Humphrey, Nixon, Ford) who had held the title of VP at some point.

Ford never held the title of VP at either of Nixon's inaugurations.

Amazingly, for all the babies that were born in the 1950s, there is a very real chance that none of them will ever become President.

You're correct, it was Agnew, not Ford on the stage. The fact still holds once you correct my error.

Ford was House Minority Leader, so he may well have been there. And perhaps Al Gore took a break from his senior year at Harvard to attend with his father (a Senator at the time).

Oof! Admirably fiendish.

Saw the Turkish spelling and discounted the Greek. There are quite a few Greek names remaining in western Turkey. Though most have been "Turkicized" in spelling, the Greek origin of many is still evident, in pronunciation if not in spelling. Immediately defaulted to Ankara. It's a fair clue, but would stand a very good chance of being a TS.
I'm not the defending Jeopardy! champion. But I have played one on TV.
