Great game and great tournament Jeff!
Was that the first tiebreaker question or was there another one that got edited out?

Great play during the tourney all around. The tie breaker must be a tough way to lose. It beats a literal coin toss though.
Lach Trash: Tennessee Williams & Margaret Mead
Funny thing, I was reading about Ovid earlier today, but I couldn't remember that he wrote Metamorpheses. At least, I knew that was way before Kafka came around.

I always love when I know a clue only because of The Simpsons. The "Tennessee Williams" clue that was on tonight's show was one of those.Ryno wrote:Lach Trash: Tennessee Williams

Great game. I thought on a tough FJ...Cooper could sneak a win with sole get. Easy FJ. Kudos on all in wager.
Congrats Jeff.

WOW!
What a finals for Teen Jeopardy! Has a championship come down to a tiebreaker? It was a pleasure to watch, great game play. I was having a tough time with the math myself, even with pausing on the DVR, so I thought everybody should just wager it all.
Instaget on FJ, but not on tiebreaker, as I guessed Georgia.
Lach Trash: Cool

Yes, the 1996 Teen Tournament. (This page in the Archive lists all 7 times a tie breaker was used, including tonight's - I have no idea which Archivist entered tonight's game in the list (tonight's *game* hasn't even been entered!) but they were quick!! Tie breakers are only used in tournaments, and the other 5 times were semi and quarterfinal games (and one back-to-school game, which doesn't have a championship structure))psgola wrote:WOW!

Instaget FJ based on the years and Red Cross. Knew the bonus question as well.
Congrats, Jeff! Good, fun way to end the season.

It seemed to me that Jeff was realizing the combined scores were going to be a tie, at that moment. But maybe Jeff was anticipating a lesser wager from Alan, hoping he would make a mistake.StevenH wrote: Like Alex, I thought from Jeff's reaction that Jeff had missed the FJ. I was very happy to have been wrong!
I had the math figured out during the commercial break, that they would be tied if both bet everything & got it correct. So Jeff's reaction at the reveal looked like he hadn't expected the tie. JMO

Congrats, Jeff! I really wish they had the camera on you the whole time at the end. I could see your reaction to the other guy's correct answer, but then, from Alex's words, it seems like you were doing mental calculations to see if you bet enough. I said to my 10 year old right after the first correct answer was revealed, "it's going to be a tie".

This was the best Jeopardy! season I've seen so far, though I must admit I have the young person bias. I'd forgotten how much I loved tournament finals after the BOTD.

Alan went for the round number yesterday. No way he could have known, of course, but an extra dollar would have clinched it for him, all else remaining the same. These two-day finals are mind boggling.

Amazing performance by all three - I'm not sure there's ever been a tournament where both runners-up doubled the minimum before. Does this mean the teens get a raise next year?
I not only had the instaget FJ, but I knew right there we were going to the tiebreaker.

By the same token, Lum could have wagered $1 less.cosmos wrote:Alan went for the round number yesterday. No way he could have known, of course, but an extra dollar would have clinched it for him, all else remaining the same. These two-day finals are mind boggling.

I was rooting for Jeff, but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth that his win depended on getting credit for Minuch (Munich) and Çuidad (Ciudad). All three players deserve congratulations, though. They rose to the top of an outstanding field and put on a great show in the finale.

Re: Friday, August 1, 2014 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]
Honestly, I usually don't watch the teens, but I made sure to watch Jeff's games because he seems pretty sharp even beforehand. Those three kids should be extremely proud of themselves for a variety of reasons.
Was pretty sure on that tiebreaker the answer wasn't going to be the Emancipation Proclamation.
