Great call.

Google Image Searching "jeopardy board" no quotes, brings up the screenshot from this YouTube video.

That's a solid hit.

Surprised I had to find this thread on page 2.

An editorial by Dan Carney in USA Today:

As devotees of the 1978 cinematic masterwork "Animal House" know, the motto of the film’s fictional Faber College was: “Knowledge is Good.” While perhaps a bit unspecific and lacking in the usual feigned gravitas, the motto does go a long way in explaining our world today, particularly as it relates to the popular game show “Jeopardy!”

Before Monday night, James Holzhauer, a professional sports gambler from Las Vegas, seemed unbeatable. Night after night he not only won, he won big. He deployed what seemed like a riverboat gambler’s swagger but what was actually a precise statistician’s methodology. He went first for the high-dollar answers and always bet big on the Daily Doubles. He mastered buzzer timing. So successful was he that observers proclaimed that he had gamed the system, even “broken” it.

And then, after 32 consecutive victories that left him on the brink of breaking the record for most money won, he was beaten by a librarian.

Like 35-year-old Holzhauer, 27-year-old Emma Boettcher had long studied the game — to the point of writing a master’s thesis on it. But the main reason she won is that she knows a lot of stuff. She is, after all, a librarian, one employed by the University of Chicago, among the most prestigious institutes of learning on the planet. Both she and Holzhauer went through the entire game without getting a single answer wrong.

Some analysts will no doubt attribute her win to dexterity with the buzzer, or to the dynamics of having a third strong contestant. But the reality is that Boettcher and Holzauer never would have gotten so far without having a lot going on between their ears. Depending on how many more games Boettcher wins, her victory could be seen as a kind of cultural moment in the vein of Bobby Riggs versus Billie Jean King.

Holzhauer, notwithstanding his obvious intellectual acumen, was a kind of cult hero to the middle-age, modestly educated, sports-addicted American male. Let’s call him Sports Man. Sports Man thinks professional gamblers are totally awesome because they make a living doing what others do for fun. (Never mind that many are actually math nerds.) Holzhauer's success made "Jeopardy!" a hot topic on sports talk radio, a place not generally noted for its erudition.

Sports Man has no such affinity for librarians. He sees them as restrained, precise — and always telling people to be quiet. For Holzhauer to be taken down by one is a staggering loss.

For millions of others, the opposite is true. There is the obvious gender issue. Nine of the top 10 winners of consecutive games on "Jeopardy!" are men.

More important, though, is the blow Boettcher's win strikes for education, academic rigor, book smarts. Highly educated professionals aren't getting a lot of attention these days. President Donald Trump doesn't have much use for them. Candidates and journalists are focused on working-class voters.

Boettcher's win is a statement for underappreciated overachievers everywhere. The nation's bibliothecaries are no doubt fist-pumping her victory this week.

In its own small way, Boettcher's win shows how education still matters. And how knowledge is, indeed, good.

Even a food article in the Washington Post can't avoid him:

Chef Daniela Moreira incorporates crumbles of Impossible Burger — a meat analog that’s riding a winning streak longer than James Holzhauer’s — into a sloppy-Joe-like filling mixed with sofrito, cheese and the spirit of 1,000 Philly steak shops. I could eat this sandwich weekly and, I think, never again dream of Pat’s or Geno’s or Jim’s.

A paternalistic tax to discourage smoking and still wanting to legalize cigarettes are not mutually exclusive goals...

Jeopardy James Holzhauer to Partner with Mike Sexton in WSOP Tag Team Event

Jeopardy James Holzhauer is done crushing the Jeopardy streets and is now moving on – at least briefly – to another one of his passions: poker. The Jeopardy giant will compete in two WSOP events next week, including a tag team tournament with partner Mike Sexton.

So much for a ho-hum series as I mentioned in an article on Thursday. The 2019 World Series of Poker just became more interesting as a non-poker A-list celebrity is about to take his seat at the felt on the game’s biggest stage.

Not to toot my own horn but I predicted the summer was about to get more interesting. And it certainly will once Holzhauer, a former online poker grinder, takes his shot at a bracelet.

One of the Best Game Show Contestants Ever
James Holzhauer was recently defeated on the Jeopardy game show after 32 consecutive wins, second only to the 74-game streak of Ken Jennings in 2004.

Holzhauer, a professional sports bettor, crushed the popular trivia game show in an unconventional way. He used an aggressive strategy on Daily Doubles never previously seen from any contestant, risking large sums of money in hopes of running up a score so high his opponents had no shot to defeat him. Typical of a professional gambler.

For 32 straight shows, that strategy worked like a charm. But on his 33rd episode a 27-year-old librarian named Emma Boettcher beat him at his own game.

Throughout his run on Jeopardy, Holzhauer received international recognition from mainstream media. He won a total of $2.46 million on the show. That’s second only to Jennings – barely – who earned $2.52 million.

But Holzhauer holds a couple of Jeopardy records himself. His average win was good for $76,944, most all-time. And his April 17 score of $131,127 may never be surpassed.

From Jeopardy Champ to WSOP Bracelet Winner?
The WSOP announced Holzhauer will compete in a pair of bracelet events on Monday. He will be available for media interviews prior to his first tournament.

Holzhauer is no stranger to the game of poker. During the poker boom era, prior to striking it rich as a sports bettor, Jeopardy James made a living playing online poker. He’s a natural gambler.

The Chicago native will first enter the $1,500 No Limit Hold’em Super Turbo Bounty at 11 am PT Monday. He will then hop into the $1,000 Tag Team No Limit Hold’em tournament at 2 pm on the same day. His partner? None other than poker legend Mike Sexton.

Holzhauer, a Las Vegas resident making his WSOP debut, plans to donate half his winnings to charity. If you are in town and hope to catch him in action, you can head over to the Rio Convention Center and stand along his rail. But given his celebrity, it may be wise to arrive early if you hope to snap some photos.

I agree that A-list is out of range. But he's at least a B-list celebrity (maybe a B+). There have been stories about Holzhauer in all the major news media. People who don't know (or care) diddly-dee about Jeopardy! have heard of him. Fame is fickle, though, and a year from now he'll probably be "Who was that guy?"

Yet Ken Jennings still has the record, it’s been 15 years and everyone knows who he is, and people still say “who is that guy “ when the name Brad Rutter comes up.

Brad never had the kind of sustained run, and breaking of records, that would have enabled him to penetrate the cultural consciousness and garner copious media coverage and interviews. (Granted, it's a little unfair that he never had the opportunity, although his 5-game regular-play run wasn't ultra-dominant.) He never became a bona fide celebrity in the way that Ken and James did. So James is starting from a much higher baseline.

that is true, but he is far from an a list celebrity...in jeopardy and trivia world, yes he is...but in the grand scheme of things i would say c or maybe even d list celebrity....so if he is on that level, holzhauer surely has to be around that
