Curious about Myers-Briggs types around here
Pop psychology is one of my guilty pleasures, and I spent way too much of today reading about the Myers-Briggs personality test. Even though I think most of it is B.S. (or at least not a very useful tool/metric), I was wondering what other boardies get on the test. I've always gotten INTJ or INTP, and I'm guessing a lot of other Jeopardy fans will fall into that as well.

The type of people that define themselves by their Myers-Briggs personalities are even worse than those that define themselves by their sun signs.

Re: Curious about Myers-Briggs types around here
I took a Myers-Briggs test about 20 years ago or so, and fell exactly in the middle on three of the four categories. Some of the details are fuzzy; I seem to recall the categories being sets of twenty on which I got ten & ten. The fourth category was something like 7 & 13 or 8 & 12, still not obviously one side or the other.
Much more recently, at a meeting of business owners, one person asked another to describe me. The answer was "I see Brian as an extroverted introvert." That pretty much sums it up.

Eh, they're both silly ways to "define" yourself, but they can be fun to talk about. My uncle gave me full astrology workups for four separate birthdays when I was growing up; I think that led to my love of pointless categorization. (My uncle is not great at gifts.)ihavejeoprosy wrote:The type of people that define themselves by their Myers-Briggs personalities are even worse than those that define themselves by their sun signs.

Been a while, but I'm pretty sure I was an ENTJ.

Never heard of it before, but looking it up, I suspect I would be ISTP.

Nobody who knows me will be surprised to know that I am giant I, very small S (on some days I show up as N), giant T, decent sized J.

Yes, how I've described Meyers-Briggs as is "Astrology for people who think they're too smart for astrology".ihavejeoprosy wrote:The type of people that define themselves by their Myers-Briggs personalities are even worse than those that define themselves by their sun signs.
I get ESPN, what that means is that I could watch football all day if I wanted to.nightreign wrote:I've gotten ENFP and ESFP. Not sure how accurate that is though. I get the impression I'm in the middle on a lot of things.

As a psychologist I know the Myers-Briggs is flawed, but it's a fun conversation piece anyway.
I'm at ENFP. I've actually moved away from the middle as I've gotten older, so I may be stuck at this configuration.

I'm a GDI. No, wait, that was my college "sorority."
As far as I can recall in my dotage, I've been fortunate enough to have avoided that test. My husband has had to take it for employment.

A colleague of mine became infatuated with those tests and subjected me to several versions. Depending on version I am either INTJ or ENTJ.
