Exactly. Let those who know sports lay it out for you if necessary and then accept it and move on.

Because everyone knows that presidential libraries are a recent thing right? Why should I not assume that an early prominent president like Washington, Jefferson, or Lincoln had one? 15 is one out of every three Presidents ever. It'd be perfectly cromulent to assume that Presidential libraries have always been a thing (after all, non-presidential libraries have) and that maybe some of the lesser-known Presidents just didn't get one.talkingaway wrote: ↑Fri May 29, 2020 9:14 pm I would have had no idea how many presidents had libraries. Could have been 30, could have been 10. I know JFK has one, but couldn't really say anything about any of the others. But it was nice of them to toss in the 15 in there - basically asking "What state is associated with 3 of the last 15 Presidents?"

Sometimes being able to answer the clue requires knowing something about the clue. That's why I didn't whinge about not getting Swiss Family Robinson: I didn't know it and that's my fault, not that of the writers.
The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.

Abby Wambach is first box famous. It's that simple.
Poll request seen for the court case clue. Even with the 3-letter hint I had no idea.

Abby Wombach, Megan Rapinoe, Hope Solo = Women's soccer. Mark's right, they all are top-box famous. We've won the last two World Cups, and have placed top 3 every year since it's started in 1991. Also had 5 consecutive Olympic medals (4 gold, 1 silver) until we got knocked out in 2016 in fifth place.TenPoundHammer wrote: ↑Tue Jun 02, 2020 8:15 pm
What was the TOM for soccer on Monitor for $200?
Someone explain Supremes for $400 to me? That seemed like an extremely opaque clue to me. Poll request?
A beast + a type of court was all I had for the "kangaroo court" clue. I got it, but I think it was 100% word play. NHO anything else in that clue, which is typical of a J! clue.

I wouldn't have guessed that any women's soccer names were top-box famous.talkingaway wrote: ↑Tue Jun 02, 2020 8:30 pm Abby Wombach, Megan Rapinoe, Hope Solo = Women's soccer. The top box was that baffling "tax" clue that was a triple stumper. I would have gotten "kangaroo court" easily on a normal day, but I was just having such a terrible time with this board that I got gunshy.talkingaway wrote: ↑Tue Jun 02, 2020 8:30 pm A beast + a type of court was all I had for the "kangaroo court" clue. I probably would have put a woman soccer player lower on the board than Lord Stanley and Muhammad Ali.

I wonder if the writers thought that quote was more famous than it is. I said "act," which i still think sounds right. (But I did predict the category was not about Diana Ross and Mary Wilson...)MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Tue Jun 02, 2020 8:21 pm Abby Wambach is first box famous. It's that simple.

I didn't get Wambach. But I did get "tip off. " And "Hoop Dreams"!

Maybe Brandi Chastain or Mia Hamm. I don't think any others are top-fox famous to me. I'm not saying the clue shouldn't have been placed there. I don't know. I'm mildly interested to see how this clue polls if you want to make a poll. (I'd suggest it for inclusion in the weekly poll, but I'm already requesting two slots for the slake/quench clue. I don't want this game to hog too many weekly poll questions.)TenPoundHammer wrote: ↑Tue Jun 02, 2020 8:36 pmI wouldn't have guessed that any women's soccer names were top-box famous.talkingaway wrote: ↑Tue Jun 02, 2020 8:30 pm Abby Wombach, Megan Rapinoe, Hope Solo = Women's soccer.
