The first episode of J! I ever really saw! I remember sitting on the couch with a piece of notebook paper, writing down the clues I thought were interesting.

Thanks so much for posting.

Comments on the game......
Spoiler
Seeing the champ on the right wasn't a big problem for me. Hated not having the names appear on screen during the intros, feel bad for the archivist who does this one, could not make out the black guy's last name. Johnny also didn't say how many games the champ had won, though alex did say he had won twice during the chat. Alex got real excited over her win and setting a new record, he barely mentioned it when Roger set the record last year. Can't believe he hugged her!

Sounded to me like Steve Bowie.

And it wasn't even true! (Elise Beraru, the first five-time champ, got $23,800 in one of her games.)

thanks. For some reason in my mind I spelled it as buoy (the floatie things in the ocean) and that didn't make sense.

I wonder if his ex-slave ancestor that moved to Texas named himself after Jim Bowie?

It was interesting hearing Alex explain the "new" rules.

I didn't think that slaves named themselves, but took the last name of their masters (however, Sally Hemmings isn't known as Sally Jefferson, so I may be wrong).

Many did, but a lot took names like Washington (after George) or other famous Americans or just made up a name. A man moving to Texas, wanting to fit in, might take the name of a Texas hero.

Thanks for that. Here's his blog, with some memories about the game:

Thanks for that link, it was neat to read his account of the game.
