OPENING REMARKS
Alex: Thank you, Johnny Gilbert.
Well, ladies and gentlemen, if you want to make a good impression, a good initial impression on a television quiz show, do what Scott Lord did yesterday--win $29,000.
That'll get people's attention, believe me.
Eliza and Jake, welcome aboard.
Good to have you with us.
Let's all go to work right now in the Jeopardy! Round, shall we?
And now let's find out what the categories are.
First off...

CONTESTANT INTERVIEWS

Alex:
With our contestants today, we're gonna talk about families, specifically dads.
Jake Smith, you're a wine salesman. Your whole family's in the wine business.
What special wines do you guys make?

Jake:
Uh, well, actually, we don't--we don't make any wines.

Alex:
Oh.

Jake:
We only provide them to you for, um, for a small price.
Yeah.

[Laughter]

Alex:
Oh. You provide them for me.

Jake:
Yeah, that's right.
Yes, sir.

Alex:
Okay, good.

Alex:
Eliza Thompson, you're not only a competitor on Jeopardy! today, but you and your dad have an ongoing competition, I hear.

Eliza:
Yes. He has a book, uh, called 1,000 Places to See Before You Die.
And we have a family, uh, spreadsheet to keep track of how many each of us has been to.

Alex:
Uh-huh. Who's leading at the moment?

Eliza:
He's winning, but he's a lot older than I am, so...

Alex:
I would expect him to be.

Eliza:
...He's got a head start.

Alex:
Yeah. But if you win enough money on Jeopardy!, you can overtake his lead.

Eliza:
I'll--I'll--I'll outstrip him, yes.

Alex:
Yes, very quickly.

Alex:
Scott Lord, let's talk about your dad. He made marionettes when you were a child?

Scott:
Yeah, by profession, he was a printer, but as an avocation, he made marionettes and started doing birthday parties and shows, and got myself and my brothers involved as puppeteers. So it was a lot of fun.

Alex:
And have you followed up with that avocation?

Scott:
I have not.

Alex:
All right. It's good to have at least one in the family doing it though, right?

Scott:
It is. It's very artistic.

Alex:
Okay, let's get back into this. You are in command of the board, so go ahead, make a selection.

JEOPARDY! ROUND DAILY DOUBLE
Jake found the Daily Double on the 29th clue. Scott had $1,600, Eliza had $5,600, and Jake was at $5,000. Jake wagered $3,000.

LIGHTHOUSES $600: All U.S. lighthouses come under the jurisdiction of this branch of the Armed Services

TRIPLE STUMPERS IN THE JEOPARDY! ROUND
I'D LIKE TO SOLVE THE PUZZLE $800: A classic logic puzzle from 1962 deals with the surnames of 3 train employees: the brakeman, the fireman & him
(Scott: Who is the conductor?)

I'D LIKE TO SOLVE THE PUZZLE $1000: "The Da Vinci Code" saw Robert Langdon decode one of these puzzle containers

THE NON-DEPRESSING 1930s $600: Hard work paid off for Frances Perkins--in 1933 she became Secretary of this, the first woman in the cabinet

SCORES AT THE END OF THE JEOPARDY! ROUND
Jake: $8,000
Eliza: $5,800
Scott: $1,600

DOUBLE JEOPARDY! ROUND CATEGORIES
THE ART OF THE KISS (5/5)
PRINCELY NICKNAMES (5/5)
SOPHOCLES, EURIPIDES & AESCHYLUS (4/5, including 1 missed Daily Double)
"BORN" TO BE A SONG (5/5)
PENINSULAS (3/5, including 1 correct Daily Double)
WORDS IN TRANSITION (5/5) (Alex: Words that can be made up of the letters in the word "transition" itself.)

THE RIGHTS & THE WRONGS
Jake: 15 R (including 1 rebound and 1 DD), 2 W (including 1 DD)
Scott: 9 R, 0 W
Eliza: 3 R (including 1 rebound), 1 W

Clues revealed: 30
Triple Stumpers: 2
Double Jeopardy! Round Potential Lach Trash: $3,600

FIRST DOUBLE JEOPARDY! ROUND DAILY DOUBLE
Jake snagged the next Daily Double on the 6th clue. Scott had $1,600, Eliza had $5,800, and Jake was at $12,400. Jake wagered $1,000.

SOPHOCLES, EURIPIDES & AESCHYLUS $2000: In Sophocles' play about her, revenge is on the mind of this daughter of Agamemnon
(Jake: What is Antigone?)

SECOND DOUBLE JEOPARDY! ROUND DAILY DOUBLE
It was Jake who snatched up the last Daily Double of the game on the 24th clue. Scott had $7,600, Eliza had $5,800, and Jake was at $21,400. Jake wagered $1,000.

PENINSULAS $1200: The southeastern Mexican state of Quintaa Roo is on this peninsula

PENINSULAS $2000: This peninsula constitutes the mainland portion of Hong Kong

PENINSULAS $1600: Take a deep breath & remember that Quebec's Mont Jacques Cartier is on the north side of this peninsula

SCORES ENTERING FINAL JEOPARDY!
Jake: $22,800
Scott: $13,200
Eliza: $6,200

FINAL JEOPARDY! CATEGORY
HISTORIC NAMES

VENUSIAN MONOLOGUES/MARTIAN CHRONICLES
Crush for first place.
Jake: Wager $3,601 to cover Scott, but no more than $10,399 so as not to fall behind Eliza's doubled score.
Scott: You have the hope of surpassing Jake if you come up with the correct response. Bet at least $9,601 to force Jake to wager to win; but if you're intent on holding on to second place, wager no more than $799 to protect your second place position from being usurped by Eliza.
Eliza: Unfortunately, your score is less than the difference between the scores of the first and second place players, so unless they both blunder, you're competing for second place and have no hopes of first. Wager as much as you desire, but remember, you'll have better chances of advancing to second place if you have a larger sum left over on a Triple Stumper.

FINAL JEOPARDY! CLUE
In 1909 this Oxford student surveyed Crusader castles in the Mideast; a few years later he returned for less peaceful activities

FINAL SCORES
Eliza: $6,200 - $6,200 = $0 (Who is Rommel?) (3rd place)
Scott: $13,200 + $13,200 = $26,400 (Who was T.E. Lawrence) (29002-day champion: $26,400)
Jake: $22,800 - $3,500 = $19,300 (Who is Churchill?) (2nd place)

Total Potential Lach Trash: $6,000

That was a hot hot hot game! Champion Scott was very subdued in the J! round and for the first part of DJ. With the one minute call in DJ, the challenger had a runaway. But then Scott rallied to get over 50% of the leader. I was thinking the innominate situation was going to happen whereby Eliza also did well in the last minute to deprive Scott of breaking the lock, but it didn't happen.

And of course, once Scott had broken the runaway, FJ played out exactly as it should have. A good, good game! I'm hoping for Scott to have a nice run.
I'd rather cuddle then have sex. If you're into grammar, you'll understand.

Still hasn't aired where I am but I've been peeking back for updates and just wanna say...

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY

I want nothing more than for Scott to dominate the show for a week so I can say, "You see? No chance against that."

Also, regarding this: Not surprising. All the winners I saw took on this glassy-eyed "REALLY? I DID IT?" look after their first victory, and I saw a bit of that in Scott's eyes back in the green room and was hoping he'd push past it. Sounds like he recovered fairly quickly!

One reason I'm rooting for Scott in this game is he and I share the same surname.

I dunno, the FJ clue implied Englishman in the Middle East in WWI, which should be Pavlov for Lawrence. Surprised it was a single get.

I think this was the second Lawrence FJ this season- the other to do with his death on a motorcycle.

I'm sure someone really wish he bet more on the Peninsula DD.

This was a good game; congratulations to Scott on his second win. I had 44 correct responses including four triple stumpers: engineer, Secretary of Labor, Kowloon Peninsula, and Gaspé Peninsula. I also got FJ.

I got FJ right, though it was a bit of a guess. I really don't know much about him other than he was British and did something military related in the Middle East. Got some reason he seemed like the type to go to some place like that and study architecture.

The fact he was in a recent FJ gave me cause for concern. Has the same person been the subject of FJ twice that close together before?

Weeeelllll... that's not quite the way it played out. Scott was a distant second going into FJ. If Jake, the first place guy, had wagered more gutsily on his final DD, he'd have had a runaway. Poor Jake looked sick to his stomach as the camera panned to him for his FJ response. I don't blame him one bit. As I say, ouch. If that'd been me, I wouldn't be able to watch my game. I don't know if I'd ever be able to watch Jeopardy! again. Ouch. Poor guy.

But I guess for you, Jennifer, it definitely means there was some STIFF competition ahead. If Scott didn't get you, the Jake and Scott show would have. Maybe. All I know is the game seemed slow-paced and lethargic. Sigh. I guess I'll get used to it again.

37 right.

Non (5), Films (5), Americana (3), Lighthouses (4), "Pat" (3), Puzzle (3)
Kiss (3), Prince (2), Soph (3), "Born" (3), Peninsula (2), Transition (1)

Lach Trash: "Labor"

Not instant, but pretty quick FJ.

This was a fun board but I had a lot of bad clams and misses. I joined the female contestant in guessing Klimt for the clue on Picasso.

I am also scratching my head at Jake's DD wagers. Granted, it did end up being a wise move on the "Electra" clue. And, ironically, I thought that Jake bore a resemblance to Roger Craig.

T.E. Lawrence burns me again on a FJ clue. I guessed Churchill.

Incidentally, Jake was one of the holdovers from Monday's taping. Several of us were giving him (good-natured) grief about his resemblance to Josh Gad.
