CONTESTANT INTERVIEWS

Alex: Tony Orcutt is from Seattle, Washington, and he is a big Arnold Schwarzenegger fan.

Tony: That's right. Uh, my wife isn't the biggest fan, but she puts up with it for quite a while. I've got, uh, about 25 plus movies now, and, uh, the collection keeps growing.

Alex: Wait a minute. How many movies did Arnold make?

Tony: He doesn't stop.

Alex: He doesn't stop. But, I mean, up till now?

Tony: Whoo. Probably 30 now.

Alex: Oh.

Tony: Yeah.

Alex: You've got close to almost every one.

Tony: Mm-hmm.

Alex: Okay. Well, good for you.

Alex: Susan Sexton is an actuary from Peachtree Corners, Georgia. But her long-term goal is not to collect movies by Arnold Schwarzenegger or with Arnold Schwarzenegger, it is to read all of the works of...

Susan: Charles Dickens.

Alex: Oh! All right. Well, there's a limit there. There's a finite limit.

Susan: There is, and I'm about halfway through. I don't know the exact count, but I've got a lot of pages to go. He liked to--to write some wordy novels, so...

Alex: Yeah. Now, which one are you putting off because you have no interest whatsoever in doing it now?--you're gonna save that till the end.

Susan: Probably Pickwick Papers, not sure why.

Alex: Yeah, yeah? Okay. Well, good luck on that.

Alex: Harris Stutman is our champion. He is a medical informaticist, met his wife of--how many years now?

Harris: 44.

Alex: --44 years on a $1 bet?

Harris: Uh, I was a poor medical student. I really needed the dollar, and one of my roommates, uh, bet me that I would not, uh, go up to the, uh, uh, the new girl that just moved into our apartment building, knock on her door, and get her to invite me in. She didn't exactly invite me in, but when she opened the door, I was in.

[Laughter]

Harris: And 44 years later...

Alex: You're still in.

Harris: ...we're still...

(Susan: What is your vocation?)

Not a chance on any of those documents. How was I supposed to know the Hammurabi Code is older than the Koran or some other document I've never heard of?

There's a Seth in the Bible?

WLT rum at $200?

"Veil" was my only miss in Vords. The only thing I could think of that a nun took was a vow, but vow was in the clue.

Ran '90s Music. Poll request on Dixie Chicks?

Pretty sure the pepper compound is capsaicin, not capsicum as the closed captioning said.

I finally managed to logic: "Dickens novel that takes place partially in France? I know nothing about A Tale of Two Cities, but 'partially in France' sounds like it fits that title."

Not a chance on FJ! I will never, ever, EVER be able to keep any royalty straight, nor understand how anyone else can. I didn't even know there were XVIII Louises.

Congrats to Harris on his second win. I had 50 correct responses including four triple stumpers: "Kiss Me, Kate", "The Life of Pablo", veil, and Tours. I also got FJ.

To be fair, French Kings aren't in most people knowledge base. Most have heard of Charlemagne, Louis 14 and Louis 16.

I knew it wasn't 16, so I just went 1 up to 17. I didn't know there was an 18 either.

Delayed welcome to you, Tony. Boy, I thought you had that one in the bag. Sorry it didn't work out better for you, but now that you've decloaked, stick around!

I had the same thought as Econ, but while I knew there was an XVIII, I figured XVII came in the right timeframe.

Louis 17 was Louis 16's son, who was never crowned and died in prison about two and half years after his father's execution. AFAIK, he's generally not counted as having been "King of France". Louis 18 was Louis 16's brother and the last Louis to be king, though there later was a Louis-Philippe I (but not a second) and Napoleon III's birth-name was Louis-Napoleon.

This was a truly fine match. Well done!

As we've reminded you before, you're on the young side. It helps if you can remember these things as they came out.

The Koran is AD, yeah? Has to be, because it's after the Bible.
I didn't recognize the Edict of Milan, but it sounded like it had something to do with Christianity (it's actually when Roman emperor Constantine 'legitimized' Christianity in AD 313). That makes it AD too. (The city of Milan only dates back to about 300 BC.)
Hammurabi was an ancient ruler of Mesopotamia, nearly 2000 years BC. He's earliest by a long shot.

He'd have to be on the really ancient side to remember when Hammurabi's Code or the Koran came out.
Normally those "which came first?" categories scare me, but I went 5/5. I ran three others, even the Oprah's Book Club one. "You get a 5/5! You get a 5/5! Everybody gets a 5/5!"
That FJ clue was TOC-level. I knew an emperor wasn't a monarch, but it was the only guess I had.

The best I could do for this FJ was "Louis Philippe". I don't know the timeline at all, and I just knew he was a French king from the 19th century.

Koran is after the Bible? And Edict of Milan was a very obscure choice.

I wouldn't have been within several millennia if you'd ask me to place either Hammurabi or Mesopotamia.

Koran is after the Bible?
Muslims revere Jesus (Isa bin Maryam) as a great prophet. (For them, he is the direct predecessor of Muhammad as a prophet of Allah.)

36 right.

Documents (5), Music (4), Bible (2), 4 V (2), Thanks (4), Economy (0)
Book (4), Words (3), Science (1), Me (5), Cities (2), 90's Music (4)

I was able to get FJ right after I remembered the Dauphin was XVII, and then going one number up.
