TPH.....I guessed Philly for that clue. It said it was a city in PA and the 1700s. The year made it seem more likely to be Philly than Pittsburgh.

The category was "New in the OED." Flamethrower has been in the dictionary for a long time, though not in reference to a fastball pitcher.Bamaman wrote:I was lost on that one. There are a number of ways to describe a hard throwing pitcher. Was there wording in the clue to nail it down to fireballer over flamethrower?econgator wrote:
Also, "fireballer" was just added? The term's been around for decades.

The clue mentioned Post cereal. Chex are a Nestle product (formerly Ralston Purina), made in USA by General Mills.dinghammer wrote:And its formula changed (for most varieties) ~7 years ago.TenPoundHammer wrote:I thought Chex was negbait on the Will Shortz clue, since it can look like the grids in a crossword puzzle.
I'd rather cuddle then have sex. If you're into grammar, you'll understand.

I had the same line of reasoning for the Space Needle question Matt Jackson lost on. "It's a needle, how does it have a roof?" Luckily I came to the correct answer there (and here) after the no reasonable alternatives line of thinking.BobF wrote:Quick question: Was anybody else like me, thinking "Wailing Wall" almost immediately, but then thrown off by the use of the preposition "in" instead of "on".
I thought "How do you put stuff in a wall?"
After rethinking my answer for 25 seconds (and basically coming up with no other reasonable alternatives), I decided to stick with the Wailing Wall.

Ahhhh yesssss I seeeeee Dohhhhhhh!!!econgator wrote:Ohhhh, sorry .... as I mentioned above, G&G covers none of Gettsyburg. The Killer Angels covers that battle.goatman wrote:BTW Gods & Generals includes cut scenes and references to 1 & 2 Manassas, Fredericksburg, Antietam & Chancellorsville (re; above), but principal action and conclusion is 1-3 July '63 Gettysburg.
Hmm something in the clue wording def leads to Gettysburg though; need to read it again!?
The corridors of my mind are plastered with 3M Post-It notes!

One thing to note: the name "Wailing Wall" is considered by Jews to be somewhat derogatory; the proper name to use is "Western Wall".

From the OED-
crowdsourcing
The practice of obtaining information or services by soliciting input from a large number of people, typically via the Internet and often without offering compensation.
crowdfunding
The practice of funding a project or venture by raising money from a large number of people, each of whom contributes a relatively small amount, typically via the Internet.
I got it wrong too.

Finally watched this game thanks to a PM from a kind board member here, and got a chance to record, for a change.
And wow, I set multiple personal records in the single Jeopardy board, including highest Coryat ($13,200). Didn't do as well in the Double Jeopardy round, but still finished with half a dozen LT.
35R/0W
Coryat-$27,200
LT-Batgirl, fireballer, Ally McBeal, Anwar Sadat, West Side Story, Long Day's Journey into Night
DD-2/3

And yeah, kind of surprised that the guy in the middle who has done community theater for 10+ years missed West Side Story.

I just got around to watching this one. Has been a long time since I literally laughed out loud during a Jeopardy! episode but when Kyle rang in on the West Side Story clue and drew a blank, his declaration, and with authority, was a shocker; I'm surprised it made it on to the air but I suppose there was no way to edit it out.
