I've waited a long time for a 5/5 week; up to this point, I think I had the highest percentage of solves for anyone who did not have a perfect week. (I'm over 50% this season). I missed the Sports J! FJ clue, so I technically didn't "drink the beer."

The TOM didn't click Monday. "Gold Cup" was the only answer I had, and that's a North American event.
Wailing Wall, Girl with a Pearl Earring.

[Edit] And no preemptions or airing schedule changes, although due to stuff I didn't see Friday's episode until early Saturday morning.

Oh, what has science wrought? I sought only to turn a man into a metal-encased juggernaut of destruction powered by the unknown properties of a mysterious living crystal. How could this have all gone wrong?

The two I missed were Wednesday's and Friday's FJ!, and I got the three other clues. On Wednesday, I thought it might be the National Weather Service alert system. On Friday, I thought they were looking for a named woman, so while I didn't know her name, I was thinking of Rubens's mistress.

Wed - Telstar. Maybe if it was an LL clue I would've gotten it, but not in 30 seconds.

Harald could easily have been a get on a different day, or during a usual night viewing rather than early morning.

I had a similar week. Here are my FJ stats for the last 15 weeks, which I hope other boardies will find amusing and relatable.
Spoiler
Week of April 11th: I had 4 out of 5 correct
Week of April 18th: I had 4 out of 5 correct (streak broken on Friday)
Week of April 25th: I had 4 out of 5 correct (streak broken on Friday)
Week of May 2nd: I had 4 out of 5 correct
Week of May 9th: I had 4 out of 5 correct (streak broken on Friday)
Week of May 16th: I had 4 out of 5 correct (streak broken on Friday)
Week of May 23rd: I had 4 out of 5 correct
Week of May 30th: I had 4 out of 5 correct
Week of June 6th: I had 4 out of 5 correct (streak broken on Friday)
Week of June 13th: I had 3 out of 5 correct
Week of June 20th: I had 4 out of 5 correct
Week of June 27th: I had 3 out of 5 correct
Week of July 4th: I had 4 out of 5 correct (streak broken on Friday)
Week of July 11th: I had 3 out of 5 correct
(drumroll)
Week of July 18th: I had 5 out of 5 correct!

Image

It's not the first time I've done that, but subjectively speaking, it feels as though in my years of watching the show, I've gone 5 for 5 about six different times, and I've gone 4 for 5 about 300 times. (That's just how it feels; it's probably not the actual numbers.)

Something I remember noticing about Tuesday's and Friday's FJs in particular -- they are reasonably gettable even if you "just barely" know the relevant information.

I noticed that on Tuesday's, you didn't really have to know what the "ironically" referred to specifically -- I just guessed the long-serving Chief Justice from the early 1800s.

And on Friday's, you didn't have to know for sure that it was Vermeer. I was about 75-80% sure that it was, but I was about 90-95% sure about the painting (although not 90-95% sure about whether to use "a" or "the"). You can still get it even if you only know Vermeer as "that Dutch painter who isn't Rembrandt".

4/5 on FJ.

Ham radio on Wednesday
"Western Wall, Wailing Wall; either one will work" on Thursday
Girl with the Pearl Earring on Friday

2/3 on bonus clues; no clue on Harald.

Pretty good week for me. I also checked the imaginary "I got Wednesday right, and was alive in 1978" box.

My response for Thursday was "What is the Wailing or Western Wall?" I ticked the "Wailing" box since it came first in the response.

8 of us have checked both boxes and I upped the voting limit to allow for checking both boxes as applies such as your response. That is why currently the two options total the rare 108%.

Myron: I did consider an option about actual CB radio usage. Alive in 1978? No I would not do that kind of thing. Plus it would sting us if the % was under...50%. Even worse under 40%?

Rang in and completely blanked on Harald Bluetooth's name. Cnut was the only name that would come to mind, and I knew it wasn't him.
Thursday: The Western/Wailing Wall
Friday: The Girl with the Pearl Earring

Thursday: both
Friday: the
Couldn't think of Harald in time, though I would have known Bluetooth going the other way.
No interruptions except one weather alert beep over Huguenots.

I think this is my second 5/5 week this year; not entirely sure, but I know I had at least another one. Going into the final week of the season with a six get streak.

Said Wailing Wall and A Pearl Earring for those respective clues.

The 10-4 connection for CB clicked just in time because otherwise, it seemed like a really random FJ clue.

And it was yet another one where it helped to be "of a certain age."

I resent Wed's clue not only for screwing up my week but for making me feel both old and stupid when the response was revealed...I wonder how often presidential proclamations have been based on puns??
