I do not understand why anything other than "Chappelle's Show" was accepted. Should I get credit for "Bunker's Place" or "Frasier Crane"?MarkBarrett wrote:My opponent and I both thought Stand By Me was the easiest of the six as we both collected 0 points on it. It would not have mattered in my 4(4)-9(6) victory, but I was pleasantly surprised to get the one point for my "Dave Chappelle Show" being accepted for Chappelle's Show.

I was relieved (but not surprised, given Thorsten's policy on these things) to get credit for "Dave Chapelle."StevenH wrote:Similarly, I gave my opponent 0 for Stand By Me (we both missed it), and I was relieved to get credit for "The Chappelle Show." I actually thought that the correct answer for the latter would be the name of a specific skit within his eponymous show; when I submitted I was happy to see that I would likely get credit. Not that any of that mattered, since I lost.MarkBarrett wrote:My opponent and I both thought Stand By Me was the easiest of the six as we both collected 0 points on it. In my rookie season I got credit for something along the lines of "Bob Seger Band" on this question.

My wife found a DVD of Stand by Me at the library a few months ago and brought it home, so that was a timely choice of hers. This Is Kirk! wrote:Blue Velvet was a great guess. I had a headslapper moment when I realized that question wasn't asking for a Native American word. No love for "Mannequin Pose" for the TV show. I am not surprised, but I remain undaunted. My quest for BWA goes on.

Re: LL71: For The LLamas
I'm getting old. Yesterday when I answered it I considered the Iraq/Kuwait question to be a "Current Events" question.
On the other hand, my opponent obviously didn't consider it to be a Geography question as did Thorsten because she assigned me zero points for it--which was smart actually because I knew it. On the other hand, she gave me two points for the World History question (Kellogg-Briand) which led me to a 2(2)-2(1) victory. She assigned three points to the "Suits" question, which I thought was excessively risky for a current TV show considering that my TV score is decent, but that worked out for her too even though she lost the game.
I've clinched at least a return to C league next season, which is quite a change from last season when I avoided relegation to D league on the last day.

Re: LL71: For The LLamas
I got a 5(3)-1(2) win yesterday. I have no idea why my opponent would give me a 2 for "objectivism" when Literature is one of my better categories and they also knew it, and then give me a 3 for "Kellogg-Briand Pact" when World History is my second best category (though they did not know that one).
I was so proud of myself for guessing correctly on Suits. At first I had no idea, but then I noticed what they all had in common and vaguely remembered hearing about a show with that title. It ended up not mattering too much, as my opponent thought that giving me a 0 on a Television question was somehow a good idea.
I did have to kick myself though on the Princess Mononoke question. I considered that since it was one of the few anime movies that I can name, but then I noticed that the male character looked like that one male character from Pokemon. I ended up simply guessing Pokemon, which probably wouldn't have sufficed for any Pokemon movie, anyway.

I just had 2 good days in a row (for me) but still lost both of them, 6(5) - 8(5) and 4(4) - 5(4)

I still don't understand why this answer was not scored as correct on the anime question.

Never heard of the show "Suits." Guess I'm in the minority! Still hard to believe more than twice as many people got that right than the Iraq/Kuwait question. I didn't know about the border barrier zone there, but it seemed like a "what else could it be?" type question.

Re: LL71: For The LLamas
I thought of the Balkan conflicts, and almost answered that - 1991 was when Yugoslavia started breaking up, and there were UN peacekeepers there (though I think that was later). I almost guessed Yugoslavia until I registered the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait. Still wasn't convinced of my answer until I honed in on the "one of two countries" phrase in the clue. This Is Kirk! wrote:Never heard of the show "Suits." Guess I'm in the minority! Re: LL71: For The LLamas
I thought Iraq/Kuwait first, but I thought "name either" made it way too easy, so I said Eritrea instead. I still would have lost both my public and private matches by a point if I had gone with my first instinct, so I'm not kicking myself particularly hard for it.
