Was leaning towards platinum if forced to put something down on Thursday, but was totally stumped otherwise

Never heard of the Amazon event, so 1949 was the helpful part of the clue.

France, no guess.
1949 was more helpful; I've never read [1]1984[/i] nor seen any adaptations of it.
Oh, what has science wrought? I sought only to turn a man into a metal-encased juggernaut of destruction powered by the unknown properties of a mysterious living crystal. How could this have all gone wrong?

My third 5/5 week this season! I had only one all of last season.
In S33 so far, I'm 38/50. If only my LL get rate could also be .760...
Hoping for a third lap

Not a happy FJ week for me. Went down the wrong path on each miss. Luckily I was very aware of the 1984 event...
I hope somebody else joins me on Bigfoot...Who said Nessie is a myth, anyway...?!

I'm always tempted to check boxes like "Bigfoot was my incorrect guess for the Friday FJ! clue." I mean, it's true. Bigfoot WAS my incorrect guess. Then I switched to the correct one. :D

On Monday, I first wrote down "France" quickly, but then switched to the Netherlands.

I notice I'm not alone with my pattern of right and wrong FJs, and I notice I'm not alone with my response of "platinum" on Thursday. I was almost certain it wasn't correct, but it was the best I could come up with in 30 seconds.

Platinum was as good as I could come up with on the Dresden porcelain FJ; I was never going to get porcelain. A rough week for me - 3/5 FJs.

   :? Another fool for France here! Also switched 'platinum' for 'porcelain' never making the TOM connection for Dresden porcelain! DOH, head-slapper!

On the Plus Size was pleased to pull 'Galatea' for Pygmalion... he sculpted her and so loved his work that Aphrodite breathed life into her; the basis for GB Shaw play and indirectly My Fair Lady.
I waited long time to see this clue but have precalled it about 2 years back, lol! I can now die happy.

The 'Log-cabin Republican' clue is oddball, but recurring now, so we better learn a new term for 'RINO.' S.E. ain't no Republican, she's a progressive liberal!
If you're liberal then please just admit it, and we can respect honesty, FGS. They're really just a Libertarian (AKA: Anarchist) faction of the GOP IMHO.
Not surprisingly, the Log Cabinists refused to endorse Trump but he won in a landslide in spite of it (or perhaps BECAUSE of it?! LOL)!
Here's the skinny on name origin of 'Log-Cabin'; it seems 'Lincoln Republican' was taken:
Spoiler
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Log_Cabin_Republicans

Log Cabin Republicans was founded in 1977 in California as a rallying point for Republicans opposed to the Briggs Initiative, which attempted to ban homosexuals from teaching in public schools. In addition to sanctioning the termination of openly gay and lesbian teachers, the proposed legislation authorized the firing of those teachers that supported homosexuality.[6]

While mounting his imminent presidential campaign, Ronald Reagan publicly expressed his opposition to the discriminatory policy. Reagan's condemnation of the bill—epitomized in an op-ed piece in a California newspaper—played an influential role in the eventual defeat of the Briggs Initiative.[7]

In the midst of this victory, gay conservatives in California created the Log Cabin Republicans. The group initially proposed to name themselves Lincoln Club, but found that name was already in use by another California Republican organization. Thus, the name Log Cabin Republicans was chosen as an alternative title. This designation calls attention to the first Republican president, Abraham Lincoln. The Log Cabin Republicans suggest that Lincoln founded the Republican Party on the philosophies of liberty and equality. These principles, Log Cabin argue, are consistent with their platform of an inclusive Republican Party.

The only one I missed was the apparent lay-up, 1984, despite the fact that it is one of my favorite books and I just re-read it a year ago. Can't figure out why that didn't pop into my head.

Thanks for the additional flags clue, Mark. 'Preciate it!

1984 is one of my favourite books; I just remember hearing the news story about it, so I'm not sure which of those two, if any, "led" me to the core t answer.

If not for Friday, I would have had an 0/5 week right after a 5/5 week!

My selections on the 1984 clue are going to be a bit weird because I EVENTUALLY got it off the 1949 part of the clue but it was a few seconds after the Think music ended. So I would have had Fahrenheit 451 written down.
