A thank you to Robert and the rest of the archivisits for having the 12/5 week complete when I woke up this morning. It was a nice gift to have the week off from rounding up the missing FJ clues, checking on the success of the players, and having all five games available for the extra clues.

 across the board for me again. The streak of players leading entering FJ winning the game seems to correlate with my success on the final clues.

For those who ignored or had no interest in the previous thread discussing The Big Bang Theory: Bazinga! It was worth $1000 on the scoreboard and a check box here on the poll. I couldn't resist doing it.

Checked'em all except the Seven Summits, a term I was very familiar with.
Odd week though- 3 of the 5 I wasn't exactly "locked in on," but the other two I would've bet everything.

What will it take for me to get a perfecto? This is the fifth time in eight weeks that I've gone 4/5 (with a miserable 2/15 those other three weeks). Maryland = Catholic is news to me (I said Rhode Island, thinking of its religious tolerance). Thought the Wash. Monument came long after 1884 and had no idea part of it was metal, but it still made more sense than the Statue of Liberty. "Single handed" led me to arm wrestling; not sure how I made the jump to the right answer. I didn't think First World War was a common enough term or that it would have ever even been used before WWII, but I couldn't come up with anything better.

Caine Mutiny = Wouk is something I really should know by now. I've seen nearly a dozen episodes of TBBT and I'm not sure I've ever heard that phrase being used. I was too busy writing notes to read the clue and misheard it as asking for an ocean, so an unfortunate miss there.

Very surprised that this is the first mention of Seven Summits in the Archive. I can't think of another term for what is basic trivia.

Thought about WWI, but didn't think that the first use of first world war would take place during the conflict, so I just said "first place", thinking of the Indy 500 and knowing it was incorrect.

Should know Wouk, but couldn't pull it in time. I was reading about the eight-thousanders (the 14 independent peaks over 8000 meters) on wiki a few weeks ago and that lead me to the Seven Summits at one point.

I said Virginia instead of Maryland, that killed a 5/5 week. I have heard of Seven Summits before though.

I went with Rhode Island on Thursday because of its 18th-century reputation for religious tolerance.

For the season:
FJ: 40-20
Extras: 15-21
TOC: 5-5
Longest FJ winning streak: 8 (active 1)
Longest FJ losing streak: 3
5/5:2
4/5:2
3/5:6
2/5:2
1/5:0
0/5:0

M: Instaget
T: Never thought of Washington Monument. Obvious looking back.
W: Got away from the Arm wrestling finals to reach Centre Court in time
T: Did not know of the Calverts' Catholism, guessed New York for my 1/13 chance of getting it right.
F: 1914...must be First World War.

I never knew Wouk wrote that book, the other two were pretty simple.

I have heard of the Seven Summits but did not get that clue right.

From the game thread, a lot of people got Maryland from knowing about their Catholic origins. Did anybody just guess Maryland for no real reason and get it right?

Sort of. I had an inkling that the USA's oldest cathedral was in Baltimore, and ran with that. I don't think it naturally follows that a building with that distinction would be built in the same state its religion's only Declaration signer represented, but it worked for me. (His funeral took place in that cathedral too.)

Semi-ditto. This is one that threw me briefly. Based upon the year, I went with "First World War" but hated it because I knew full well it wasn't called that back then. It was the great War, and didn't get called "World War I" until II came along. BUT it's better to put a stupid answer down and have a one in skillion shot than put down nothing and have a zero chance.

It wasn't until the reveal that I fully parsed the phrasing: the writer wasn't describing the "first" of a potential series of World Wars; rather, the quote was pointing out that of all the wars in mankind's history, this one was going to be the first that essentially involved the entire planet, the first war that would be global in nature. All IMO, of course.

A head-slapping week. Got the work but forgot the author on Monday, and Friday realized it had to be a term related to WWI... and didn't get it.
