CONTESTANT INTERVIEWS
Alex: Dennis Fawcett was introduced as being from San Diego. He's an handyman and a painter. Am I right in assuming that the painter part is not the artist but a house painter?
Dennis: I've done that a little bit, but house painting.
Alex: Do you enjoy being a handyman? Because I talk to the audiences quite often, and they ask what I do in my spare time, and I enjoy fixing things.
Dennis: Sure. Work for yourself, and you get to make your own hours. It feels very good to make people's homes nicer. Just do it well.
Alex: Yeah, and to solve problems for yourself and other people.
Dennis: Sure.
Alex: Right. Good for you.
Alex: Anupama Srirangan from Aurora, Illinois, who admits to being the number one fan of a world-famous tennis player, who, in the past year or so, has enjoyed a big resurgence.
Anupama: Of course. Roger Federer.
Alex: How did that come to be with you?
Anupama: I've been a tennis fan for almost 30 years, but in the last ten years or so, he and Nadal have made it so exciting. I've followed him a lot of places to see him. I go to the U.S. Open every year. Seen him in Dubai, go to Cincinnati every year. So I think he should recognize me by now.
[Laughter]
Alex: All right.
Alex: Ivan Plis is a magazine editor from Washington, D.C. who once hitchhiked around the Middle East. You couldn't do that today.
Ivan: No, sir.
Alex: Where did--where did you go?
Ivan: I was living in Jordan, and this was before the Syrian Civil War and some other complications. So the way you travel across borders, at least in those days, was there was a part of town where all the taxis congregated, and you say, "Wanna go to Damascus?" and that's where you go. So you kind of wind up in a car with whoever else is there at the same time as you.
Alex: All right.
JEOPARDY! ROUND DAILY DOUBLE
Ivan found the Daily Double on the 19th clue. Ivan had $2,200, Anupama had $200, and Dennis was at $3,000. Ivan wagered $800.
LIBRARIANS $1000: This man whose name is still on librarians' lips established the first training program for them in 1887
TRIPLE STUMPERS IN THE JEOPARDY! ROUND
ONE STATE, UNDER CANADA $800: Of states sharing land and water boundaries with Canada, Alaska leads at 1,538 mi.; this contiguous one is next with 721
(Ivan: What is Montana?)
COMPOUND WORDS $600: It's the barrier seen here on a diamond
HORSE SENSE $600: In "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow," this man borrows a "broken-down plow-horse" named Gunpowder
(Anupama: Who is the Headless Horseman?)
NFL TEAMS BY HALL OF FAMER $400: Wide receiver Michael Irvin
NFL TEAMS BY HALL OF FAMER $200: Defensive tackle "Mean Joe" Greene
NFL TEAMS BY HALL OF FAMER $600: Running back Marcus Allen
(Anupama: Um, what is, uh, Colorado Rockies?)
...
[The end-of-round signal sounds.]
