What do you guys think of Austin Rogers so far? [POSSIBLE SPOILERS]
There are 10 things that I noticed about Austin so far:
1) Austin Rogers is a powerful machine at the DDs ($74,100). He puts Pranjal Vachaspati ($34,810) and pretty much every other current ToC player to shame. He earns two, three, and over that many times much against the other ToC competitors.
2) He pulls off a few situations when he goes "Matt Jackson" about it. Also bets like Matt Jackson on how he would want on his DDs.
3) On The Jeopardy Fan website, each pic of his win is like a "takes it serious" look. He has that straight face, like how Arnold Schwarzenegger kept in the Terminator movies.
4) Has the "Buzzy Cohen" mojo in his Jeopardy! introductions.
5) Has the "Alex Jacob" charm, where he loves to make runaway games. In fact, of his 6 games, 4 were runaway matches.
6) He's second to Pranjal Vachaspati in terms of buzzer speed (43.07%). ((Note: Pranjal is 44.47% on the buzzer.))
7) Set a record for most money wagered in FJ! (AND WON!)
8) Does get some hate/love comments like Matt Jackson, Arthur Chu, and Buzzy Cohen.
9) People have maybe mentioned this guy as the next Ken Jennings because of the way he's played.
10) He amasses $42,950 per game, the (Possible) highest average scored by a Jeopardy! player.
But in your way, what do you think of him?

Jeopardy! is like History. It's a mixed bag of categories that try to test your knowledge to see if you know or can recall answers that seem familiar to the viewer.

I think he's put a temporary halt to the outchange.

I could do without the schtick, but he's certainly formidable.

I'm curious where ge ranks on coryat of first five games.
Someone put together that list when Matt Jackson burst on the scene.
I still think that's the closest we can get to an even comparison of all players.
I also wonder if there's a method to his betting. It appears he thinks about it, then just blurts out some random number. Not to mention treading dangerous waters with tonight's final bet.

Total game show career losings = $171,522

Not sure what you're basing that on, but there have been two $30,000 FJ wagers.MTGcollegestudent wrote: ↑Tue Oct 03, 2017 7:44 pm 7) Set a record for most money wagered in FJ! (AND WON!)

I suppose that if you're going to play with fire, this was the game to do it - one person out of the game, and the field of potential answers being relatively finite and well-known.

Which just aired moments ago here. I thought the OP were referring to yesterday's $22,000.hbomb1947 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 03, 2017 9:42 pm$34,000 > $30,000.kprather895 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 03, 2017 9:16 pmNot sure what you're basing that on, but there have been two $30,000 FJ wagers.MTGcollegestudent wrote: ↑Tue Oct 03, 2017 7:44 pm 7) Set a record for most money wagered in FJ! Austin Rogers is a smart person that is great at the buzzer and bets a LOT. I'm normally pretty liberal with my own bets but the 34k bet tonight was not something I would have done in a million years.

I don't find anything wrong with him. He's a little too reckless at times (why did he wager more than 33,600 on FJ on Tuesday), but people often make math mistakes under the lights. It will be interesting to see how far he goes, and whether or not he'll be in November's TOC.

Disagree that it was a math mistake. Look at his face -- it was an intentional decision. I love it. Jeopardy contestants are often cautious, conservative, and dare i say, boring. I would never want the show to turn into the screaming and clapping or manufactured suspense of other game shows, but a player with flair does not go amiss.Cat Hammarskjold wrote: ↑Wed Oct 04, 2017 1:07 am I don't find anything wrong with him. I really like that he swings for the fences on DD
aily Doubles, it was driving me mad how often people before him were betting very little over the clue value.

I find him a little too quick to inject his personality into every opportunity, but can't help but think that if I were on the show I would be similarly obnoxious, so I can't hate too much. Otherwise, he's great.

Well, looking at THAT thread was pretty much pointless. 8 pages of discussion on "outchange" and "rift trend"? Well, I only looked at p. 1 and there didn't seem to be any real definition. So I certainly didn't bother reading the rest. If there was ever a real definition, I hope someone will post just THAT as I can't see slogging through EIGHT pages to see if one were ever "given." I did also like dhkendalll's comment, thoughtalietr wrote: ↑Tue Oct 03, 2017 8:25 pmhttps://jboard.tv/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=1 ... ge#p111321KaladinStormblessed wrote: ↑Tue Oct 03, 2017 8:13 pmNewbie here - define "outchange" please? Yeah, alietr, I could do without the schtick as well. I find it quite off-putting. He certainly is quite knowledgeable (sp?) and plays the game well. But I haven't really warmed to him.

It is just a running joke making fun of an eccentric poster who seems to have limited command of the English language - and most importantly, in this instance displayed sexism as well. We wouldn't be so cruel to someone who was merely eccentric - that could apply to a lot of us!jwatcher16 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 04, 2017 8:57 amWell, looking at THAT thread was pretty much pointless. 8 pages of discussion on "outchange" and "rift trend"? Outchange was that person's word for a string of women doing well on the show. I think it was posted during Julia Collins' run.
