William Blake is obscure now? Horrid miss! And then that really easy FJ meant no change in positions, most likely. It's good to see Buzzy again but I didn't remember the other players.

Forgive my ignorance but what do the ribbons the contestants were wearing represent and what color are they?

Are all the FJs this week going to be that easy? I'm worried there's going to be some serious imbalance in difficulty before the week ends.

I'll guess he said "Pearl Harbor Overture".rjaguar3 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 06, 2017 7:47 pmWhat something else did you guess? (You did guess, no? )TenPoundHammer wrote: ↑Mon Nov 06, 2017 7:29 pm 1812 Overture seemed way too easy, so I figured it had to be something else.
Rough start for me as at one point I had 1 right 3 wrong (Young Bohemians instead of New Bohemians, ugh), but I was able to pull 19 right 4 wrong total for the first round. DJ was similar scoring, I think it was 18R, 1W.

Were they being honorable to not pick up the steal after Buzzy whiffed on "Ford Fusion?"
I don't know diddly about the Battle of Borodino, but spotted "Battle" and "Sometime in the 1810's," even I could get it.

I take it that the ToC takes place every two years (I believe that the last ToC was in 2015, with Alex Jacob the winner). Is that why the 2017 lineup includes the College Championship winners and the Teachers Tournament winners for both last year and this year?
Jasper
P.S. Why is one called the College Championship and the other the Teachers Tournament when both have the same format?

The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.

This century they've generally been coming somewhere between one and two years apart. For most of the '80s and '90s they were strictly annual. Two years is the most time that has ever passed between ToCs since Alex started hosting.Jasper wrote: ↑Mon Nov 06, 2017 10:41 pm I take it that the ToC takes place every two years (I believe that the last ToC was in 2015, with Alex Jacob the winner). Surprised that the “Cave Wars” clue was an S&S. Given it’s a cave that’s a national park narrows it down to a 50-50 chance between Mammoth Cave or Carlsbad Caverns.

There's a few pedants here who would say that one of these is not alliteration.Volante wrote: ↑Mon Nov 06, 2017 10:58 pmAlliteration is Awesome.Jasper wrote: ↑Mon Nov 06, 2017 10:41 pm I take it that the ToC takes place every two years (I believe that the last ToC was in 2015, with Alex Jacob the winner). (I'd say they both are by what has been accepted as alliteration by J! if I recall right. Whether that really is alliteration or not ... )

Yes, a very well-played game, though with a surprising amount of Lach trash, especially in the Backing Bands category (though Knossos and the hittites were another source of LT for me). Poor Hunter, stuck between two formidable players.

It's not effective alliteration...William Blake, that obscure poet/illustrator, wouldn't be impressed...dhkendall wrote: ↑Mon Nov 06, 2017 11:10 pmThere's a few pedants here who would say that one of these is not alliteration.Volante wrote: ↑Mon Nov 06, 2017 10:58 pmAlliteration is Awesome.Jasper wrote: ↑Mon Nov 06, 2017 10:41 pm I take it that the ToC takes place every two years (I believe that the last ToC was in 2015, with Alex Jacob the winner). Definitely a lot of music clues tonight. My wife accused them of feeding Buzzy.MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Mon Nov 06, 2017 4:00 pm Ammo for the conspiracy buffs with Buzzy the music executive getting a FJ! category of MUSIC & HISTORY.
My first instinct on FJ was the 1812 Overture, but Borodino just didn't sound Russian to me so I said "Carmen." Pretty terrible guess, but oh well.
