CONTESTANT INTERVIEWS
Alex: LaKedra Pam is from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. A physician who at a very, very early age started thinking about being a contestant on Jeopardy!
LaKedra: That's right. I always watched Jeopardy! with my father growing up. And when I was about five or six years old, I turned to him and asked, "Dad, how could I get to be on Jeopardy! one day?" And he told me to just try to learn three new things every day. And that's what I did. Here I am.
Alex: Good for you, and good for your dad. Good advice.
Alex: Charlie Santiuste from Charlottesville, Virginia. Nicknames?
Charlie: Charlie Shorts.
Alex: Charlie Shorts. Sounds like a Damon Runyon character. "Hi, I'm Charlie Shorts." How did you get that nickname?
Charlie: Yeah, so as long as I can remember, I always preferred to wear shorts instead of long pants.
Alex: Oh.
Charlie: So walking around campus in the winters of Virginia, I picked up the nickname because of my shorts and flip-flops.
Alex: And you're still healthy today.
Charlie: Sure.
Alex: Good for you.
Alex: Ben Raphel is our champion. He is from Boston, Massachusetts. You once won an award for performing an impression of who? Billy Joel?
Ben: Billy Joel. That's right.
Alex: Really?
Ben: This was a high school talent show. Everyone else had actual talent, but I got up there and sang my favorite Billy Joel song, "Movin' Out". My friend played piano. And instead of winning an actual prize, we won the Audience Appreciation award.
Alex: Ah. Miss Personality.
Ben: That's right.
