That's cold, xxaaaxx!
I would prefer not to.

I said the same but didn't mark myself up or down for it figuring the judges would've BMS'd it and I'm not sure if I would've worked through the lyrics in time (I'm no fanilow).
Her name was Lola, she was a showgirl
With yellow feathers in her hair and a dress cut down to there
She would merengue and do the cha-cha
Copa, Copacabana
His name was Rico
He wore a diamond
He was escorted to his chair, he saw Lola dancing there
From the lyrics, it is pretty clear her routine as a showgirl involved dancing. It never says she sang. I would say they would have to take it. But we'll never know for sure.

I use the j-scorer site to track my Coryat and part of the site lets you enter the topic of the category so you can track your performance in various topics like in LL. I didn’t code that as “cars” though as I felt most questions more relied on knowledge of history than cars.
$200...Charles DeGaulle
$400...aluminum bumpers
$600...Howard Hughes
$800...World's Fair
$1000...McLaren

Only one of the clues (the bottom one) really required any knowledge of cars. Knowing about the aluminum bumpers might have given you a jump on the $400 clue, but it was still a pretty easy guess. I would put the first clue as history and the second as science. I guess the next two would also be history, but I think of Hughes as more of a pop culture figure than a historical person. I think of historical people as politicians, military leaders, explorers, and people like Martin Luther King. Same with the World's Fair.

I think part of the problem with categories like this is the clue reader often spends one paragraph giving us extra information about whatever they are talking about that really has zero to do with the clue itself.

This assassination attempt is depicted at the beginning of the move The Day of the Jackal.

I had the opposite reaction. The de Gaulle clue gave us "1962," "french president," "assassins," and a picture of the man in service dress. The World's Fair clue's description of an "exhibition of space-age technology," made me clam since World's Fairs are general cultural exhibitions and not exclusively centered around technology.
That World's Fair even had spaceships! Well, if you believe the documentary Men in Black...

DeGaulle at $200 I'll chalk up to not knowing anything about French history, and $400 to not knowing anything about cars. I should've gotten Hughes and World's Fair, but just like any other celeb clue they were "Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah... oh yeah this is actually a clue, let's cram the important stuff all the way at the end, and then since I'm a comedian, I'll also cram a joke in even though I'm about as funny as an autopsy."

I have no idea why the writers do this. Even if the category is appealing and the celebrity is likeable, any clue that extends onto two cards and takes 10-15 seconds to read is just too darned long, and (yes, Mark) an absolute guarantee of an unfinished board. Bleeeeaaaaahhhhhhh!!

I remember a Teen Tournament contestant, maybe from 2012, who answered in a similar fashion, like a kid being told my her parents to say Thank You for a gift.

I guess I underestimate how well-known de Gaulle is. My students have never heard of him. Even when I point out how easy it is to remember him given the connection between his name and the Roman name for France, they still struggle when he comes up.

Odd bit of synchronicity here, this article came out today:

https://gizmodo.com/transgender-woman-b ... 1822995349
The patient had to obtain domperidone from Canada, as it’s not available in the United States. This drug is known to increase prolactin levels (a hormone that stimulates milk production after childbirth) and milk volume
Literally the second time I've ever seen 'prolactin.'

I first ran across de Gaulle from way back when I regularly read the Guinness Book of World Records. His claim to fame: surviving the most assassination attempts. It wasn't until years later when I actually learned who he was outside of being the living embodiment of a bullseye.

Charles de Gaulle's time was also the time of that brief joke-book craze, Elephant Jokes. I had several...

One of those was:

Q: What does an elephant say to Charles de Gaulle?

A: Nothing. Elephants don't speak French.

I was maybe 6 years old when I first read that joke, and the reference sticks. De Gaulle is the only French Prime Minister I can remember reliably.

How many French Presidents can you remember? ;) This is one of those reasons Opus will be missed during his time away as he can be quite clever with the lightly correcting posts in combination with humor.

Super-instaget of the final... Loved that show.

However, I didn't remember any character named Pearl, so I set a spell and went a-Googlin'...

Hmm... played by Bea Benaderet, veteran sitcom actress... Didn't remember her being on that show, however... Even still pics of her in Bev. Hillbillies costume didn't help.

So, I found the first episode on good ol' YouTube... Jethro's mom, and the one who suggested that Jed should move to Californy, and offered Jethro and her truck to help. Pretty important character...

But even with all that info, I still don't remember any later plot arcs that involved Pearl.

Anyway...

I enjoyed the Leno's Garage category, even though the clues were too long (Can you imagine Oprah or Neil DeGrasse Tyosn reading those? They would have had to make it an hour-long episode). Got the first three clues, missed the last two. I think of McLaren as a company that built top-notch racecars in the 60's and had no idea they still existed. Also can't think of *any* reason to buy a 240mph zillion-dollar car, not even if I was so stinkin' rich that the price seemed like pocket change to me...

Unlike some on here, even though I picked up that the word jack was the one missing in that word-puzzle clue, I didn't and would probably never would have gotten through to "Skipjack". Not a fisherman at all.

I also got tripped up on the Buffy clue. Have never watched even a second of that show.

In addition to the Fanilow "Showgirl" response... Did anyone else respond to the Paul Bunyan clue as "He's a lumberjack, and he's okay..."?

Apparently I completely messed this up. I thought it was going for Lola from "Damn Yankees." Lola's real job was working in a real estate office but in the show she played a Latin American dancer named Seniorita Lolita Banana. That's where I was thinking either dancer or showgirl would be acceptable.
I'd rather cuddle then have sex. If you're into grammar, you'll understand.

You could have multiple Harry Morgan characters. How about Sherman Potter's wife back home on M*A*S*H. Come to think of it, you could probably fill a whole category with unseen MASH characters.
