CONTESTANT INTERVIEWS
Alex: Jesse Darland is from Charleston, South Carolina. Once had a brush-in with the Secret Service.
Jesse: That's right.
Alex: Doesn't sound good.
Jesse: Well, I was working at the Kentucky Derby, checking tickets to make sure the VIPs were in the proper section, and I heard that Vice President Al Gore and his wife were making their way to their seats, so I thought I'd go shake their hands. But I moved a little bit too quickly because someone grabbed my elbows from behind and said, "Just stay right there."
Alex: Ah, and you did.
Jesse: I did.
Alex: Good for you.
Alex: Shari Post is from Aurora, Colorado. We have a lot of new bicycle lanes in the Los Angeles area. You could take advantage of something like that because you and your husband have a bicycle that we don't see that often.
Shari: Yes, tandem bicycle. It comes apart into two pieces, so we can take it on trips. We've gone to lots of cool places. Last trip we did was last summer. We went across Iowa. It's a 400-mile, 7-day bike trip called RAGBRAI.
Alex: Who rides up front?
Shari: My husband does.
Alex: So that means...
Shari: I can just put my feet up and read a book.
[Laughter]
Alex: Yeah, he doesn't know that you're reading.
Shari: Oh no. Don't tell him.
Alex: Okay. Next thing you oughtta do is buy a kayak built for two.
Alex: Matt Lisiecki is our champion. He is from Brooklyn, New York. Once spent a summer living in what sounds like an exotic and perhaps dangerous location.
Matt: Not really dangerous, but yeah, I spent a summer living in the Ecuadorian Amazon. Kind of right where the rainforest bumps up against the mountains. It was the most beautiful place I've ever seen. It was pretty spectacular.
Alex: Good for you.
TRIPLE STUMPERS IN THE JEOPARDY! ROUND
HOME FURNISHINGS $400: Use this appropriately named wire shelving unit to cool off your pies or to display your plants
(Matt: What is a cooling rack?)
(Jesse: What is a rack?)
...
(Alex: You had to be specific after Matt's incorrect response.)
DITLOIDS $1000: The classic ditloid, a Solzhenitsyn novel:
1 D I T L O I D
DITLOIDS $800: The talus is one:
206 B I T H B
SCORES AT THE END OF THE JEOPARDY! ROUND
Jesse: $6,000
Matt: $4,400
Shari: $3,400
