Meaning to exhaust one's energy and resources, it sounds like quickly using up a pre-industrial light source
"Burning the midnight oil" means to work into the night, not necessarily to exhaust oneself or the resource.
I will refrain from criticizing the writers for keeping my FJ percentage up... :) Too easy? I thought yesterday would be a triple get too, so what do I know...?

Pretty sure Alex's "I have no idea why" was a continuation of his thought that Daniel would like the statue of Paul Bunyan and Babe.

I suppose this was an easy FJ. I accidentally fast forwarded too far and saw the picture before reversing the direction. I knew the answer before I could hit the return button. I just played back the clue to be sure they got it right. It is possible that the "Governor of NY" might negbait someone who didn't know TR was a Gubernator.

Anybody NOT get the lach trash on which Shakespeare play has the St. Crispin's Day speech?
Welcome back, El Penguino! I think china is OK unless you meant the country. Would you BMS to People's Republic of China, or to Republic of China? You have been gone a while  . I actually answered "ceramic", and bisque is a generic term for any underfired ceramic green body.

I'll trade you a "meson" for a "Henry V". No way I get there if you spot me Hank and a Roman numeral.

I thought the Physics glossary category was cute, but just went 3/5. After the first vibe from the first two clues, D for daughter was a stumper. I never really considered it an official physics term, but rather as a colloquial usage in the English language. I wonder if they use "sons" in other languages? I couldn't get past "decay". I was also stumped on T for thermonuclear, and kind of question it's value as a synonym. The "T" word is only used to describe bombs as common usage. It's just a fusion reaction otherwise. Of course meson was an easy get, even without the song TPH mentioned, but mostly due to the stamp collection that is the standard model.

Jack is a trivia machine. Look out RobW! He's not displaying your game savvy yet.

Ran the Cliche category, and got all but Birch Box in Trees, Cleveland in Encyclopedias, and Zenith in Opposites.

There's an LPGA too?

Date + alliterative + actually recognizing that as Teddy Roosevelt = Rough Riders.

Lach Trash: burning the candle at both ends, "pop", Paul, CD-ROM, meson (thanks to that "Strange Charm" song)
that was the only one i got right in that category...could have asked for the name or the country and i would have got it right as well...too easy (imo) just asking for the answer of lpga

Ebbs and flows. I'd argue this whole season's been easy, though that might also be mistaken for a humblebrag...

Yo! I consider myself somewhat knowledgeable on the Bard (one of my favourite books is a huge tome (like, bigger than any other single volume I know, including my Bibles, flag books, anthem books, dictionaries, and other reference books) of all of Shakespeare's works, including his sonnets. (Had to buy it for a Shakespeare course I took in university over 20 years ago, was one of only two textbooks I ever bought in my post-secondary career that I didn't furiously try to sell off after the semester - and still have both to this day). I don't remember that speech at all in it.

I got FJ! and some other clues.

That thermonuclear clue threw me off. My knee-jerk answer was "transient" and I feel like a lot of other t-words would have satisfied the clue.

I didn't think that "daughters" was an appropriate $1200 clue. They saved the physics category for last. I would be ok with more emphasis on science overall.

I like Jeopardy!

The Battle of Agincourt was fought on St. Crispin's Day. Instaget!

Really good game with a ridiculous FJ! I half-expected them to tell us that the group's name rhymes with "Tough Tiders."

You beat me to it. Daniel and Ashley gave us the Ottawa spelling, while Jack favored us with the Saskatchewan version. It's a good thing the clue specified "alliterative." Otherwise someone might have responded with "Who are the Redblacks?"

I agree and have seen a noticeable jump in my solve percentage over previous seasons. For the sake of comparison, here are the contestant regular-play FJ! solve percentages for the past five seasons:
S34: 49.9%
S33: 43.7%
S32: 50.4%
S31: 45.8%
S30: 43.0%
Sprinkles are for winners.

Ah, my childhood fandom comes back to me. Back in the 70s the Rough Riders was the only team in Ottawa, and were actually good for a bit. The Ottawa Rough Riders name dates to about the time of this picture and, though they claim in comes from the lumber industry, it probably was named after TR's group.

Probably better known nowadays as the "Band of Brothers" speech.

I didn't. Can't say it's something I've heard of. I didn't even know there was a St. Crispin.

Instaget for me on the St. Crispin’s Day speech, helped by having seen the Branagh Henry V a couple of times.

Would have gotten the FJ even without the photo.

Oh... I rather liked that. It's not the first time I've felt like someone said a word aloud for the first time on Jeopardy. I always think it's pretty great.

Branagh's Henry V is probably my favorite Shakespeare film, though he modified the script a bit to incorporate Falstaff scenes from both Henry IV plays. His St. Crispin's Day speech the right amount of feeling and range, from quiet and understated to rousing.

Olivier's, though, is almost more fun to watch through modern sensibilities. You can tell he's a Thespian with a capital "T" from the outset, devoted to "ACTING!" theatricality. By the end of the speech when he climbs on the cart, he is definitely channeling his inner Sideshow Mel.

I'm not the defending Jeopardy! champion. But I have played one on TV.

I'm very late to the party this week. Might have a bit of time to catch up over the weekend.

R: 29, W: 5, costing 3000
Coryat: 19,000
FJ:
DD: 3/3
LT: antique, ceramic (assuming that's OK), burning the candle, thermonuclear, Paul, CD

Timings:
3:07 + 3:13 = 6:20
6:20 (sic)
1:31

An easier pair of boards for me. Still got stumped with the Bard and Canadian performers. (I guess Celine has been overused by now.)

Had to think just a bit to dredge FJ out of the memory banks. Had forgotten that Teddy was the NY governor, but that didn't matter. I calculated a max bet of 1199 for Ashley. (So as not to fall behind a double by Daniel while staying ahead of a miss by Jack.) It's a nice place to be on a tough clue - as long as Jack misses, she wins with a correct wager. Unfortunately for her, it wasn't so. I can understand her confidence in the category, but in that position she should let logic rule over the chance for an even bigger payday. With her over-wager, she HAD to get it right to win. With a correct wager, her answer is irrelevant. Only Jack's would matter - something that is not in her control.
