Alex: We have two journalists as contestants on the program today. The first man we introduced, Jack Dickey, is from New York. You wrote a cover story for Time magazine. Magazines are going out of style, as you know, but you must've had a good time, because you were dealing with Taylor Swift?

Jack: Yeah. It was 2014; her album 1989 was coming out, and I had been trying to convince my editors for ages that it would help the magazine to put someone under the age of 50 on the cover.

Alex: Uh-huh.

Jack: And yeah, it was great.

Alex: And a big star to boot.

Jack: Big star.

Alex: Yeah, okay. Good for you.




Alex: Ashley Chapman. We introduced you as being from Massachusetts.

Ashley: Yes.

Alex: But you were born in...

Ashley: I was born in Hawaii.

Alex: Hawaii. As a matter of fact, you went back there to get married. Did you marry a Hawaiian?

Ashley: I did not. My husband, Nick, is from Massachusetts. But I grew up on Kauai, and we really wanted to get married somewhere special. So we got married on Kauai at a beautiful restaurant, right near the beach. It was amazing.

Alex: You know, when you say Kauai, you don't have to add the adjective "beautiful," because everybody knows how beautiful that island is.

Ashley: It is, yes.




Alex: Daniel Carden is our champion. He's from Indianapolis. He's a journalist, also. A journalist who in his travels likes to visit odd roadside attractions. Give me an example.

Daniel: There's a place in Ohio that has the captain's bathtub from the U.S.S. Maine that sunk in 1898 in Havana.

Alex: Just standing by the roadside?

Daniel: Yeah.

Alex: And don't they clean it up?

Daniel: It's in a museum, but you know, it's just a really old bathtub.

Alex: Oh.

Daniel: You know, it's worth a stop.

Alex: You would love the big statue of Paul Bunyan and Babe the ox.

Daniel: Yeah, in Minnesota.

Is running a category some kind of curse? For the second day in a row a person 5/5 in a category did not win the game. Ashley earned the applause for her work in WE APPRECIATE CANADIAN PERFORMERS! Jack had the lead for the FJ! round (aided by 3/3 on DDs) though on a triple solve clue.

Once again the Clue of the Day as shown on the J! site was DD3.

In the coincidence department was Ashley the history teacher looking at the FJ! category of AMERICAN HISTORY. She can go back to work since she solved the clue and bet big.

Jack solved the clue for the win although I got a chuckle out of him making it one word to have me picturing TR playing in the CFL.

Will we get a FJ! clue tomorrow with just words or are more video clues with images going to become more of a thing now? I’m 2/2 this week, so I’m fine with the trend.

I don't count Coryats but today would have to be one of my better games from the fourth podium, with a pretty easy FJ to boot.

There is a Paul Bunyan statue in my former hometown of Oscoda, Michigan, which is said to have been home to the first published stories of him.

Ran the Cliche category, and got all but Birch Box in Trees, Cleveland in Encyclopedias, and Zenith in Opposites.

For "burning the candle at both ends," I said "burning the midnight oil." Does anyone recall the wording on that clue? It seemed possible that could've been accepted, depending on the wording.

Being a sports fan, I easily swept the basketball category.

I could've sworn that, either late in the Sony Boards era or early in this board's history, we actually had a Kids' Week clue get 100%. Anyone got the numbers?
