CONTESTANT INTERVIEWS
Alex: Kurt Buhring is a professor from Indiana. And I wanna hear about what you did last summer because it sounds like noble pro bono work.
Kurt: It was a unique experience. I taught a course at a prison that was nearby, a religion in science course. And it was a wonderful experience. The students were fantastic and exceeded my expectations. And it was really remarkable.
Alex: In what way did they exceed your expectations?
Kurt: I had stereotypes of what to expect coming in, and they were just--they were diligent. They were very, very strong, and they were committed to the course, and hard-working and really, really bright.
Alex: That's great. Way to go.
Alex: Melissa Anthony, graduate student from Alabama.
Melissa: Yes, sir.
Alex: You had something special happen on your wedding day.
Melissa: I did. So my husband, David, is from Mobile, Alabama originally, and that's the home of Mardi Gras, so he's in a Mardi Gras band. Has been since high school. And most of the members were in attendance, so they brought their instruments, and they played us out of the reception.
Alex: That's kind of neat.
Melissa: Mm-hm, yeah.
Alex: I like that.
Alex: Josh Hill is our champion, ladies and gentlemen. He is from Arkansas. And he plays piano...
Josh: Mm-hm.
Alex: In a tiger suit?
Josh: Well, I've been playing piano since grade school, and the tiger was my high school mascot. And I guess it kind of stuck, so I got this tiger suit, and I've been playing piano/keyboard for various conventions, help raise money for charities.
Alex: Good for you.
JEOPARDY! ROUND DAILY DOUBLE
Melissa found the Daily Double on the 30th clue. Josh had $8,600, Melissa had $2,200, and Kurt was at $1,800. Melissa wagered $1,000.
AUTHORS USE NEW WORDS $1000: This 1955 novel is responsible for popularizing the word "nymphet"
TRIPLE STUMPERS IN THE JEOPARDY! ROUND
NATURE $800: The Queen Alexandra's birdwing of Papua New Guinea isn't a bird at all but the world's largest one of these
(Melissa: What is a bat?)
SHOW RUNNERS $800: Produced by these 2 actors, the reality show "The Runner" follows contestants across the U.S., not just Boston
