My wife said "salve" for the silent L category clue where the given answer was "balm." I don't recall the exact wording, but I'm assuming salve would have been acceptable.
Can't see why it wouldn't be.
The clue specified the substance was plant-derived; I don't know if that makes a difference. (I said salve too.) There's also the "You're the..." punny TOM, but that doesn't pin it.

Especially since I tend to pronounce the "L" in balm.
I said salve as well. Then I wasn't sure if it would be counted correct since it didn't really fit the hint of "You're the balm (bomb)." I've never heard anyone say someone was [something that sounds kinda like salve].
Salvy I have been called, but never simply the salve.
I love that commercial. My sister pronounces almond like that and it's always been like nails on a chalkboard to me. She also pronounces "milk" as "melk."
A couple weeks ago I saw a commercial for almond milk that must've used "ahmond" about 20 times.
I say "melk" myself but I've been trying to correct that. However, I will continue to defent "diabeetus" as a valid pronunciation until the day I die (although I hope I don't die of 'beetus).
