Alex: Thank you, Johnny. Welcome, ladies and gentlemen. CONTESTANT INTERVIEWS
Alex: Dana Wayne is an educator from southern California, who once, it says here, walked to another country for lunch. You were on the border somewhere.
Dana: I was in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.
Alex: Ah.
Dana: And we learned that Zambia's just a bridge away. So we walked across the bridge, got our passports stamped, had some lunch, walked right back to Victoria Falls.
Alex: And did you spend a lot of time at Victoria Falls?
Dana: Unfortunately, we were only there for about a day and a half, but then proceeded through Botswana and Namibia and South Africa for almost a month.
Alex: Did you visit a crocodile farm while you were there?
Dana: No.
Alex: No? Big crocs. Impressive stuff.
Alex: Matt Masich is from Denver, Colorado. He and his wife plan day trips with a specific theme in mind, which is...
Matt: That's right. You know those penny-smashing machines where you can make a souvenir and turn a crank? We decided to try to visit every one within a hundred miles of Denver, where we live. It took us all over the place, including to the top of Pikes Peak, where they actually have one, and we smashed a penny at 14,115 feet.
Alex: Okay. Good for you.
Alex: All right, we come to Rachel Fabi, who is our champion. Recently started doing something that I have been thinking about, but haven't gotten around to yet, and that is indoor rock climbing.
Rachel: That's right, yeah. I just started in August, and it's been really fun. I used to be afraid of heights, and now I can make it up 40-foot walls. It's crazy.
Alex: Yeah, but it's nice to climb the wall knowing that you're in a harness and a rope that prevents you from falling.
Rachel: Absolutely. I don't do the short walls at all.
Alex: Okay.
TRIPLE STUMPERS IN THE JEOPARDY! ROUND
ALEX' BUCKET LIST $800: I want to make a pilgrimage to the Potala Palace, once the main residence of the Dalai Lama, in this city 12,000 feet up
(Alex: That city is the capital of Tibet, [*].)
[The end-of-round signal sounds.]
SCORES AT THE END OF THE JEOPARDY! ROUND

Rachel: $3,600
Dana: $3,400

Dana: Wager $12,001 to cover Matt.
Matt: You're faced with a legitimate choice in strategy. You can either choose to cover Rachel, hoping that you give the correct response and Dana doesn't, in which case you'll want to wager $6,801 to cover Rachel's doubled score, but no more than $10,800 if you want to top Dana on a Triple Stumper; or bet up to $3,199 and win if both Dana and Rachel miss Final.
Rachel: You ought to try wagering between $3,201 and $3,600. This will top a $0 wager by Matt while still beating Dana and Matt on the Triple Stumper (should Dana wager to cover Matt's doubled score and Matt wager to cover your doubled score).

Re: Tuesday, February 19, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Matt let that game get away and it will not be fun for him to watch it as the lead disappears. When playing on stage a lot of the game details are hard to recall along with scoreboard nuances. The reality will hit when watching on TV without the studio aspects.
Dana's break is two weeks for TV viewers while on taping day it was back at it in short order.
The FJ! category is one when someone could be in the ballpark doing a precall of a J! favorite. That is one deep well the writers have for it.
I'm happy to have a 2/2 in the pocket this week knowing the next two FJ! clues may be more difficult. Tomorrow should be fun and I may have a Smash Mouth song stuck in my head.

Re: Tuesday, February 19, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
In case it's up for discussion later:
IT'S TWOSDAY! $800: They’re the 2 main political parties in Britain
Matt: It's the, uh, Labour & Tory
Rachel: Labour & Conservative
If Matt phrases properly then he may have had 14800 for the FJ! round and the lead. DD2 & DD3 were already burned at that point so not a factor.
Edited: Fixed to correct Matt's full response. Thanks, Andy.

Re: Tuesday, February 19, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Kind of weird that as of this moment (11:15 a.m. PST), the J! official site is already spoiling the results of today's game. They don't do that usually, I don't believe.

CC has Matt opening "It's".
I feel as though there's some sort of calendar error on the J! site that's causing it. Any reason I should know those films at $200 are Italian? I guessed India for a country known for lots of award-winning films.
Ran the Verbs and Store categories, along with "K" and Twosday in DJ!
Yes, I got McPeople for $2,000.
I live 10 miles from a gypsum mine and have to pass through it to get south of town. So why do I blank on gypsum EVERY TIME IT COMES UP?!?
Spans the Thames? That's in London. London Bridge is falling down, my fair lady. Hey, that sounds like the name of a musical.AX

When the writers hang a slow curve like the FJ over the plate, even I and TPH can hit it.
Disappointed that Lhasa was a TS
Surprised myself by going 4/5 in Oscars, missing only Plummer.

Got excited for A CLOWN CATEGORY when I played J!6, but I must say I was disappointed tonight
Krusty and It put me to sleep Zzzzzzzzz
Indianapolis Clowns didn't really fit the theme
Baskets is overused
"Sad" clown for $2,000??????????????????????????? Ask for Watteau or Pierrot instead
"Thank you" in OSCAR RECORDS was also a weak clue IMO. Ask for Patty Duke instead

I think Matt was robbed of a win. I heard his answer as “t’s Labour & Tory?” not “it’s” but saying the word “what’s” too fast so it comes out “t’s”
That one clue cost him the win.

The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.

Number of Best Foreign Language Oscars for India: 0 (3 nominations all-time)TenPoundHammer wrote: ↑Tue Feb 19, 2019 8:07 pm Any reason I should know those films at $200 are Italian? I guessed India for a country known for lots of award-winning films.
This was kind of famous when it happened:
But without knowing the films, neither title particularly screams "Italy", I'll give you that.

I'm going to have to start embracing scary sounding categories. I'd already written off FJ from the category and they gave me a nursery rhyme and enough TOM to know it wasn't Ring around the Rosie about the Plague. I did have "Hello Dolly" loaded up when I saw the date, and then the switch was easy. These two and Death of a Salesman are the sum total of my White Way knowledge of the era. Jimi Hendrix lyrics- no chance (Excuse me while I kiss this guy), but this = easy peasy.
I could have had a viral reddit or twitter meme if I'd been on the show. My response for the highest capital - lhasa apso. spoken like a true cat person.
I'm afraid this goofy tourney is going to make TPTB just delay the next TOC until there are mostly 5-day champs, which are coming at a very slow pace.
