Re: Tuesday, March 19, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Lindsay impressed me with the way she picked off big dollar clues after she had the lock game. Plenty of time to study the clue because the others weren't going to guess themselves back to the green room after watching Monday's taping. Lindsay mopped up some hard ones and removed any suspense.
I think she will go 5x tomorrow, but what if that gratuitous $5k bet causes her to slip out of the tracker ? She couldn't have known that represented 3 positions and she'd be first in line of the 4X winners if she bet ZERO. I am glad to see someone with 100K roll the dice for an extra 5 grand after a nice day at the casino. Thanks Mark for posting the update for us poor out of touch people.
I am surprised nobody could connect phosphor and fluorescent bulbs.
I got FJ on the tossup over England and Morocco. 1859 seems kind of late to declare a dumbass war to Make Spain Great Again. Did they elect a narcissist bigot?

Not to mention the Oscar winning movie 'Man Getting Hit By Football'.CasketRomance wrote: ↑Tue Mar 19, 2019 9:19 pmthe father in the movie poltergeist and also played the title character in the tv show "coach"TenPoundHammer wrote: ↑Tue Mar 19, 2019 7:28 pm Ran Triple O.
Bridgeport, Connecticut rings not the faintest of bells for me, and it cost me the run because I bit on the Hartford negbait. I was stunned when that was wrong, since I literally couldn't think of another city in CT.
Also missed only Hermes in Hats.
All but brownstone (NHOI) in Vocabulary.
3/5 in Voice Actors. Can't say I've haerd of Craig T. Nelson, and blanked on Clooney.
Surprisingly, I also ran the UV category.
Country across the water from Spain? Uhhhh.... IDK, Morocco? Sure, why not.

I thought of Morocco, but the I decided to read "much closer country across the water" as "country on the way to Mexico" and chose Cuba instead (even though Spain still claimed it at the time). It's my fault for inferring more than was implied, but "across the water" made me think a bigger body of water than a strait was involved.

Wasn't that George C Scott?
Morocco seemed too obvious, then I remembered those exclaves and figured that war must be why they're there. (Turns out they predate the war by a really long time)
The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.

It has been so long since we had a 5x champion - I hope she is the one because she is a bit of a bulldozer once she gets going (especially in DJ). Some champions (like Alex Jacob) don’t surprise you when they suddenly have $20K in front of their podium. With this champion, it seems like once second she is at $9K, the next she is at $20K+.
So many good 4x champs in the ToC pool. On one hand, if you can’t get that 5th clinching win, those are the breaks and no one should feel “bad.” On the other hand, I just want high quality play in the ToC and most of the players on the 4x list would give us that.

I recalled from my stamp collecting days as a kiddo (60 plus years ago, Good God Allmighty!) there was a "Spanish Morocco" (also a "Spanish Sahara"), so that helped. It's funny (funny weird), I can still recall some of the stamps.seaborgium wrote: ↑Wed Mar 20, 2019 2:18 am I thought of Morocco, but the I decided to read "much closer country across the water" as "country on the way to Mexico" and chose Cuba instead (even though Spain still claimed it at the time). The Emperor Jones is a crazy play - seen it a few times and will probably see it again
I said monotonously because I thought the clue was asking for an adverb
It appears that Lindsey is first in on the buzzer but she keeps on clicking
2nd and 3rd looked really defeated, especially 2nd when he kept getting beat to the buzzer after missing 2 DDs

Re: Tuesday, March 19, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Happened to be perusing the archive earlier Tuesday and came across a clue asking the owner of Western Sahara until ~1976 (I know that Morocco now owns that territory). Can't say that hurt my chances getting this final right.
Anywho, I'm sure I have noted this before but I agree completely with the sentiments you shared. It's a shame that several truly great players will be sitting home come November, and especially so when their Day 5 losses can be traced back to needing one more correct response here or something else there. At least three or four of those champs either sitting on the bubble or out of the running altogether are, in my opinion, capable of winning a ToC if they get to play. As you said, though, those are just the breaks sometimes.
How about a Tournament of 4-day champions, pitting this cycle's four-timers against the last one's? I'd pay to watch that.yclept wrote: ↑Wed Mar 20, 2019 12:10 pm So many good 4x champs in the ToC pool. "Name a Big Ten University in Indiana that's not Indiana." How do you miss this?
Trash pickup: cappuccino, Garden of the Gawds, Thebes.
Also disappointed that Hapshetsut didn't get a mention.
Instaget FJ. Spain picking a fight with UK in the 1850s would've meant oblivion.
